Description Finally finished this monster of a painting never have i made such a list of changes to be made or been so critical about one piece. However i really do need some portfolio work to show off my paintings skill ^_^.

Deyja Vitr sky pirate at the dock of a town i'm currently designing. Been doing an awful lot of game mechanics study and planning and realising just how much adventure most RPGs really lack. It is not engine restraints that restrict modern games it is simply poor game design and neglecting to put proper planning before jumping in and making a game for there audience.

I'm aware that narratology is important but i don't believe for one minute that in a game it should be priortised over game design. But apparently companies like wasting there money copying silly patterns in which have made one or two titles sucessful. Just like the tonne of wow clones which rise and fall out there so will these naratolgy obsessed "innovative" game designers.

Thanks, yeah I was hoping to get the viewers attention having them lean there head to the right slightly to match the horizon line. The opposite direction in which the sword is unsheathing

i agree about the narratology taking game designers time away from making decent game mechanics! but i also think a well written and concepted world/story can lead to the creation of fun game play if its done right, and as you say doesn't just follow the patterns trodden out by our predecessors!

awesome piece its reminds me a lot of suckerpunch, which you already knew from games jam! keep up the great work, its inspiring me to get into gear with my art side!

My fave piece in your gallery by far, I love the detail and the layer of rainwater and ripples on the floorboards.

Thanks, reading this a little late, missed this comment . I still feel this is my best to date and I'm 3 years on I should return to full time painting sometime I miss doing illustrations like this one. At the moment I'm just doing icons and 2-3 hours images for clients and working on my 3D skills.

Thanks ^_^ i think my biggest downfall usually is the values(shading) of my materials but i'm not disapointed with the values or materials in this piece and i've been practicing them quite a bit the last half a year. One of my best compositions so far but i hope to top before the end of the year

I wasn't planning on making a habbit of full body stuff. A friend of mine who requested the piece set it as a challenge for me. Although I fully enjoyed doing it! So might do it again... lol. Thank you for the link

I especially love her tattoo and you did a great job on the colouring overall.
The rain in the background also gives a glow, like the Northern Lights, beautiful

What engine are you using for your game ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StormAndy In reply to Imtor [2011-05-03 19:58:28 +0000 UTC]

For Deyja Vitr? Deyja Vitr's design isn't anywhere near ready to start working in engine ^_^ i've played around making some prototypes in the Tes3 engine. Hopefully Tes5 if it is a polished enough engine.

I think you could do with toning down some of that foreground rain a little, I dunno why I find it a bit distracting but that is just me! This is so awesome. Keep it up

I like this though I agree with Altara, I also think you need to work a little on the proportions but other than that I like it I like your coloring style quite unique ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StormAndy In reply to SilentAsTheSky [2010-12-22 05:52:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

Hmm strange, someone on poly count mentioned proportions as well i've been trying to spot what they mean, any advice on which part of the body? I've been quite careful with the proportion and posuture in perspective from the beginning that actually being my main focus for several hours.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SilentAsTheSky In reply to StormAndy [2010-12-24 18:27:16 +0000 UTC]

I think you may need to do what I did to help me with proportions, I started looking at the picture as a whole, does this leg look the same length? etc etc once you can figure that out you'll be set, just notice that when your bending a limb in art you've gotta make sure that if the limb was extended it would equal the same length as the other limb....does that make any sense? >.<

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StormAndy In reply to SilentAsTheSky [2010-12-24 19:48:16 +0000 UTC]

I mean't in the pictue >.< lol i'm asking because i don't know what in particular you think is incorrectley proportioned

I've done 2 years of regular life drawing and drawn well over 2k figures in the last 2 years. I've been writing an ebook on human anatomy and illustrative undersketches ^_^ what you say makes perfect sense hehe

Check out my forum and you'll understand what i see as the basics of human drawing anatomy [link]

SilentAsTheSky In reply to StormAndy [2010-12-25 05:00:44 +0000 UTC]

I think the legs aren't the same length I am taking an account that one is furtherback than the other and that one is bent but they do not look right, I don't know how much more specific than that I can get, my only suggestions is watch out when drawing angles like I said otherwise it's a great picture I know from my own work that action poses are quite difficult.
