Description
Here are some alien animals I designed and laid out in a tree of life thing. These are all meant to be living animals. Extinct species are not shown. The exact order and branching might not be completely accurate.Also, there are a lot more species than shown here. I'm filling a sketchbook with these things, for the fun of it.
None of them have names yet. The planet doesn't either.

May I use one of those (more specifically the one that looks like a snake coming up from a circle shaped body with six tentacles) as a pet for a character I am developing? He's a grey alien named Halley Stargaze (that's a name he adopted to use o Earth since his native language is unpronouceable for earthlings)

I didn't see your reply to your own comment. How did the Spore verion(s) come out? I tried making a few of them in Spore, with moderate satisfaction.

well, I just made the one I said I would sporize, called it "Hell Parrot". It was rather fun, but I wasn't able to cover it completely in armor because of the limitations, also, the structure in the middle of the back gave me some difficulties, I had to improvise.
Painted it red with dark brown scales.

I found that I'm rather satisfied with my own spore-versions of creatures I had drawn before. This one.. well, I'd say moderate satisfaction as well.

Very nice! Even though the lineage of the creatures are different, we still see an across the board similarity!
And about the names, do both human given and alien given. Make it seem like humans have names for some, particular predators, while we use the alien names for most.

Well, that depends: Do they come from a planet inhabited by intelligent alien life forms, a human colony world, or a planet that has yet to see intelligent life evolve?
If they come from a world with intelligent aliens, they would have names that the aliens give them. For example, one could be called the "S'sslkr'aa," while another is called the "Bkkl'ii."
If they come from a world that humans took over for themselves, they would be named both scientific names and common names. For example, the one in the very-top-right corner might be called "xenoanklasaurus spinus," better known as "The Spiny Turtle-Lizard."
If they come from a planet that has never seen human-level intelligence, the names wouldn't matter. They'd just be animals.

Those are good points. I haven't decided that yet, either. Though while I was first sketching them I imagined them being recorded by a human observer.
