Aye he was. Not sure what's going to happen with series four. RTD is supposedly writing it, but with what characters? If we look back to the original cast, 4 of them are dead, one's pregnant, the last has run off to another planet, who knows if he'll be back for the new series. Which leaves the only option for the cast to be all new characters, probably including Lois Habiba. But I doubt it'd work as the original cast are so loved, especially Ianto! I heard that he'd been scripted into the new series, but it's only a rumour. But we can still hope he'll be back. Perhaps they could do a flashback kind of series to Torchwood 1 with Ianto and Lisa.

I think RTD will have to bring him back eventually because I've seen comments from people who are going to stop watching now that he's gone and I'm sure alot more will follow unless Ianto comes back.

I don't mind her - besides, I'm quite fond of Rhys and if she died, he'd be devastated, poor lad. But I don't really think they'dhave killed off a pregnant woman. Or man. No discrimination. Wait... Why didn't they make Ianto pregnant instead, then he wouldn't have died? XD RAMBLE CITY. O_o I think even Torchwood might stop short of mpreg, though... XD
