This reminded me so much of this picture: [link]

It's feebleness feels like that of a spider web...

i would love to see a wide angle version of this photo ... it would compliment the house's twist.

I completly agree. Hopefully I will be able to buy a wide-angle lens here someday and go back out to this same location and re-shoot the house.

Beuatiful shot, the colours are wonderful, they're so subtle. The composition in this shot is very good, and I love thet house, it looks so old and abandoned, like nobody has been there for a 100 years. Very good work here. Definately a

I feel so lucky because I have a 'gold mine' of abandon houses like this about 30 miles from where I live, and I love hiking around snapping shots of them. Thanks for your kind words!

You're welcome mate. I'd love to explore abandoned places.. But unfortunately there aren't a lot of those around where I live, but I'm planning to go to the outskirts of a big city nearby and take a look around, I might find omething nice to photograph

I love this, I pass a house like this everyday, and say to myself, there is something so charming about this and I should photograph it. Maybe I will thanks.

Stewdog In reply to babyducks [2005-12-19 19:19:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, you should! What kind of creeps me out is the fact that someday none of these old houses will be around, they are going to fall apart due to weather or be demolished by man. I was thinking about going on a ghost town/abandon house hunt next Summer, maybe go to Montana or Wyoming. It would be amazing to photograph subjects like that.

Seems you never got to the edit but consider this.... the open frame left and right suggests the open plains... I'm for it and I swoon at old buildings about to fall down.. Fav!

Stewdog In reply to Sun-Seeker [2005-12-01 18:26:15 +0000 UTC]

Your're right that must be the reason I chose a kind of 'widescreen' effect with this because of the openness on both sides. Never thought of it that way before. Thanks!

The other thing is we are getting used to seeing that effect on our TVs... except I just got a wide screen and get to see it all again!

I know what you mean, its just the way the sun is hitting the structure that throws that one wall into deep shadow. Thanks so much for the comment.

Yeah, you nailed it. When your're out there standing next to these old houses you can almost feel the lives that used to inhabit these places. Its really eerie..... in a good way.

I love the color, composition and subject of this shot! I think I have to agree about the border, however; I think that it doesn't blend well with the subject and style of the work. I think the border works with the other two works you use with it (Bullet Time and Silent Sentry), so I'm not bashing the style at all.

Overall, good job!

Stewdog In reply to Betweenshades [2005-10-10 15:18:39 +0000 UTC]

No problem at all - I know your not bashing. I think I will edit this and add a frame all the way around. The masses have spoken (all 2 of you ) and now I want to see this with a complete border too.

Thanks so much for your kind comments and feedback, it helps me a lot.

Hey Suma. I almost decided not to submit this because I was in a hurry when I shot it, and felt with more time I could found a better angle. Funny you mentioned adding a sepia tone, because that would of looked great...I almost went with black and white too- but in the end I just felt like going with the natural colors. Thanks so much for the feedback.

Hey Jimloomis! Thanks so much for your feedback - I really appreciate it. I see what you mean about the borders - I think its just a personal taste thing for me. I have far more pictures with a full border all the way around - but lately I have been experimenting with this type of border. I think it looks cool..but maybe I need to lay off it for a bit.

So desolate, it seems like a lot has happened in the house, and now it has been left for dead. Great picture, it must be nice there in Grand Coulee...

You are so right, this whole area is desolate and almost haunting. You get out of the car and there is just this impending silence that surrounds you. What kills me is there were a bunch more old barns and homesteads around there, totally abandon and like a ghost town....but I didn't have time ! I'll be heading back for sure a.s.a.p. Thanks for the comment.

I'm always attracted to this type of shot. Photos like this often look best to me in sepia tone, but I'm glad you didn't do that with this one. The subtle colors are just wonderful...and the title here is perfect. Certainly a
