Description
Tariel Nimara laid her hand on Abulus's flank as she watched the chrysalis break open. All the foals had been inside since the beginning. She had never seen anything like this. Tariel held her breath, watching....waiting. She stood as the chrysalis broke open, light spilling from the glowing object. Bright beams of light shot out and within each beam floated, as gentle as a breeze, a tiny foal with glistening wet wings. She caught her breath at the sight of it. It was like a butterfly, but more magical than that. She stiffened as she saw a second.

It lingered at the margin before darting around in a spiraling dance. Two. That was getting dangerous. She would have to get the twins off the island soon. Suddenly, the light shimmered again. Another shot out, speeding along with a brilliant shine. She felt a drop. Triplets? They didn't linger like butterflies, it was more magical than that. They fluttered in the air. Their flanks glistened with dusty light. Their wings seemed to shuffle off the last of the dust. The dust disappeared in the glow of the chrysalis. Another blazed out in a soft light and Tariel felt even more unnerved. Before she knew it, there were six fluttering foals.

Emerging, the parents waited to see where the foals would go. Several of them fluttered over to the stallion, eager to leave the island. Tariel felt much better. She was fearful of keeping so many young on the Island. She had not been prepared for six tiny foals. One perhaps, but six was so many. No wonder the mare had done things so strangely, creating a chrysalis.

Tariel dug her fingers into Abulus's mane. There were two. She could only justify keeping one more foal from this joining. As it was, that was taking unnecessary risk. She poised. Perhaps she could find a home for this last foal. It was a risk, but better the foal have a good chance outside of Tir'Rielle's Siege. The monsters, demons and undead that had been invading the island had put everyone at risk. She hoped she had made the right decision.

-----Four Years Later----

Tariel watched the stallion, Aganippe's Joker as he trounced around. She had watched him go through the crystalis and when he'd emerged he was as beautiful as he was before but with a subtle glow to him that grew with his emotions. She watched him as Atarn put him through his paces in the arena. He was a fantastic creature. Atarn hopped off, stripped off the bridle that had been the stallion's only tack and made his way to Tariel. He pressed his hand to her rounded belly. He smiled. Looking ,deep into her eyes he purred...."my love. I know you want to be out here and see him. She smiled as she watched him. So playful when not being ridden. "How are his magical studies going?" She asked.

"Excellent" Atarn replied. "Far better in faery magic than you'd think anyone should be." he laughed. Tariel giggled. They watched the stallion as he flew with the faeries.

Instead of aging normally, these foals will stay babies until they go through the chrysalis. Any of these foals can put themselves into a chrysalis and when they re-emerge they can look like whatever you want (even more outlandish and fantastic than their parents, or they may look exactly the same if you love the design and don't want to change it). They can go into the chrysalis within days or within hundreds of years. They are all on their own time line and it doesn't matter when their brothers and sisters go through the chrysalis. They must go through the chrysalis to be bred. When they are really really old, they can go through another chrysalis, but this is only instead of dying, then, they live for another cycle before it happens again. You can do this process as long as you like. In this regard, they are immortal and forever changing (or remaining the same, its up to the owner). Downward flared, spiral fins on the side where the wings attach to the back provide openings to pouches where she can store small objects on either side of his body. This does not affect her flight at all as these are minor pocket faery dimensions. Every once in a while a dark fae may emerge and fly off from his wings.

There is something beyond fantasy here. This is a mystical land just for you. If you like something real or mundane, Stephanie creates stunning domestic and wild animals. She studies biology and has a love of the ocean and wild animals. Horses, wolves, foxes, ponies, deer, dogs, cats, panthers, lions, fish, tigers and other creatures are some of the animals she draws. Stephanie Small is an artist located in California but she has spent time all over Oregon. Nature is an influential inspiration to Stephanie, as she seeks to augment and reflect what she sees around her in a variety of mediums. Inspired by medieval art, the fantasy and science fiction genre and more, Stephanie has developed a style of mythical realism. Stephanie uses a variety of styles and mixed mediums in her artwork. She regularly uses digital mediums such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter and more. She favors traditional mediums such as colored pencil, chalk, pen, ink, pencil, acrylic, watercolor. She has been known to adapt fabric, recycled art, recycled purses to create art that is both useful and stylish.

Stephanie has been interviewed and featured in several magazines and websites. Her artwork has been published several times in books and magazines. She is best known for artwork featured in publications such as the Page, the Twisted Vine, the Unicorn and others. Her artwork will be featured on the cover of several upcoming books and publications.

She often donates teaching, administrative assistance, research and artwork to many local non-profits. She has taught in-person and online classes on food preservation, writing, gardening, spirituality, unicorns, art and more. She has worked for (and with) the local government to initiate youth projects, senior events and business support.

Stephanie loves unicorns and the horses she grew up with. It is clear in her art. She also loves mermaids. She even has a set of mermaid fins she can swim in. Stephanie Small finds inspiration in the animals of the ocean such as whales, orcas, narwhals and dolphins.
