Ok, i found some time off, so i apologize for the late response to your request, but i am here now e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

Just going off of first impressions, this art somewhat struck me, as a battle between two components which only ever has one outcome.

Moving on to my own personal take of this picture.

Your concept you tried to create, and did very well in doing so, is intriguing yet realistic. It sets two different elements, two elements that we as people use daily and take for granted also. The picture shows the battle for supremacy as such.
This picture i am finding hard to critique because there is 'bad' about it, its simple, original to a point, stands out, its meaning is there, whether it is the meaning/moral you wanted to get across or not is besides to point, the picture shows a moral for everyone or some story. The only flaw, which that's a heavy word to use here, so the only downfall would be the black open space. I just don't feel it, i feel something that not even i can think of should go behind them, they need something more to create a real impact of depth. The coloring is nice, it sticks to the two themes Blue for water, red for fire. You or whoever else might read that little note there and think "well obviously" but i do see and have made the mistake where i go way off the color scheme, and devalue the arts overall striking feature.

"Breaking It Down"

Pros:
+ Concept is great
+ Simple yet holds a lot of elegance, and a moral // story for each person to view this piece of work

Cons:
- Background could of done with something to create some depth to the image
- Don't make work which i find hard to critique because its really good with no flaws and then end up rambling on....wait what was i saying?

I never really understood the opposite attraction between fire and water. Water clearly wins. How many people do you see running towards flash floods with match sticks and torches?

Anyhow, what I see here is a fairly standard digital collage of appropriated imagery edited together on a black backdrop. The left side of the canvas is dominated by the fire, the left, by water. The fire sprite is standing in an exaggerate pose as is the water sprite each one gracefully emphasizing the flow of the element beside them.

The main problem wit this piece, from a personal standpoint is the fact that all of the elements, all of these appropriate pieces of the puzzle, while fitting together nicely enough- do not actually react to one another.

Even in the center foreground of the piece, the only spot where water actually battles fire, all we really see are an overlay of layers disappearing and fading into one another. Where is the steam? Where is the reactions? For being the central theme of a piece about fire and water, the only part of the piece that actually shows the conflict is left largely undefined and dull.

Look at the way the woman's water gown bikini thing is reacting to her body. The blouse and skirt explode in form and detail and it's wonderful. If every element of the piece was handled as thoughtfully as that it really would be magnificent. On the other-hand, I see very little flames on the fire sprite's clothing. which is unfortunate. Other than being flustered red there really isn't any defining characteristic linking it to be in charge the fire wall. It looks more like a person grimacing in pain as it engulfs them.

You are obviously adept at cleaning up textures like flame and water and making them seem in place in a piece. You obviously have the patience to deal with work like this as the detail in the water splash contains a lot of fidelity to the source material by preserving all the droplets in midair. You just have to take it to the next level.

The very best digital collage artists know how to deal with extreme (and even more subtle) themes and even show the elements reacting to one another. I've seen a similar fire v. water piece and it had twisted and molded the water into forms bursting with life and steam, contorting the licking flames and bubbling water.

The fire model also looks like a leather clad Richard Simmons, which is the scariest part of the whole thing... but the pose fits.

Cropping wise you made a wise decision of bringing it out to a long-two shot. Both characters fall on the rule of thirds low outside lines. and the movement of the flame and water walls curve through the top third. So there is a definite balance and that can be appreciated from an educational standpoint.

Overall though, I want to clarify. You did an excellent job technically. You just have to keep pushing your pieces and yourself to become better as an artist. I don't want to discourage an anyone from doing the form that he/she loves, so I don't claim to be an expert on digital collage work- take everything I say with a pound of salt.

I hope the critique was helpful and not irritating (as I know I can be). Good luck!

Mmmm, very nice! I love it.

The guy looks a bit like Michael Flatley...who was super hot when younger and actually ain't too bad now, either.

Very lovely pic.
