If you watch them move about the forest, especially this time of year when they are strutting their stuff for the females, they have this Regal quality about them.

JMMurphy In reply to SteelCowboy [2007-11-19 15:16:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know!

But they must, in order to attract a mate . Though, I personally think that they think they rule the forest, especially where I live, there is no real "predator" around besides automobiles.

SteelCowboy In reply to JMMurphy [2007-11-23 14:50:41 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty similar here where I live. We have eliminated their natural predators so we must monitor their numbers so they don't overpower their econiche.

Where do you live? I'm in Michigan.

SteelCowboy In reply to JMMurphy [2007-11-24 14:32:09 +0000 UTC]

I live on Long Island, across the bridge from New York City. We are close enough to Manhattan to see a show, visit an Art Museum or hear great Jazz, but live surrounded by beaches and wildlife. We are fast developing though and I fear it may all be gone soon.

Oh, that sounds lovely! But, gosh, I hate when they have to build everywhere! It makes me so upset. It's the same around me too; drug stores going up, condos, subdivisions, you name it, they're building it.
*sigh* sometimes I wish I lived on a private island, away from these ridiculous crowds!
Sorry, my inner tree-hugger just had to say something, .

I feel you..........It's the same here and life here must change as there are few meadows left, and all the waterfront is lined with homes and condos. We must work to find the wildlife now. I have a wonderful letter which says it all for me and if you don't mind I will E-mail it to you. Let me know

Damned if I know. Was I supposed to reapond to a question? Since I only have time to log on once a week, I have no idea what that referred to. Please forgive me.

JMMurphy In reply to SteelCowboy [2007-12-24 01:43:26 +0000 UTC]

Oh don't worry! I understand completely.

There was no question to respond to, but you wanted to e-mail me a letter about deers and wildlife, I think?

But, you don't have my email address, do you? If you do, please tell me how you got it, because I don't want weirdos emailing me revolting things!

And I should hope that you yourself is decent, hmm?

I remember now. It was a letter written to the president about the environment.I tried to copy it to a note but it does not work, so let me work on it and see if I can note you. I don't blame you for not wanting to give out your e-mail info. I will try to modify the file first.

Thanks!

I'm just so paranoid with everything that goes on now a days.

Can't trust no one or anything!

SteelCowboy In reply to JMMurphy [2007-12-29 10:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Not paranoid........Wise. It's a harsh world out there and we must be careful to navigate safely in it. I am having trouble with the file. I saved it as a jpeg, don't know why, so I can't copy to a note to send it. I will have to scan it again and save it as text. So please be patient.

Great Picture. To help get the deer to co-operate you might try picking up a deer call, like hunters use. They are pretty cheap, some can be used hands free, and the deer will often look right at you. If you need more info you could look around on hunting sites.

SteelCowboy In reply to thunder46350 [2007-09-22 13:23:04 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes you want to go unnoticed. I Camo out and try to be invisable. If I want their attention I just whistle. I was a Bowhunter so I can get as close as I need to in most cases, and if the wind allows.

Most of the year it is close to impossible to get a clear photograph of them, but in the fall when they Rut, they are so wrapped up in courting that they will allow you more latitude. Most still run like all deer, but some are a little more tolerant. Thank you for your kind comment.
