Its not the tool, its the light, youll never get good detail in that light. Its far too harsh for those lovely white feathers! A polarizing lens may help a little, or if you can, have the whole bird in the shade, or the light. There some nice feather detail around the neck though!

The Eagle was in a reserve dedicated to rehabilitating and releasing injured animals. He is almost ready for release back into the wild. They all have that heavy feather detail over the eye, so if you trying to photograph them around midday, you'll get that shadow. In this case I thought it brought more impact to his look.

You did this eagle proud, Rock. I love the shading on his face; it's just enough to dramatically enhance and set of his features. It's extremely well composed, too. And I LOVE the frame. It's perfect for the subject.
