I think she looks younger without the color. For some reason she looks slightly older in the color version because of how the checks are rendered in the color version. I'm not sure maybe it is an optical illusion.

Hopefully not an optical illusion, since it was intentional. This drawing was of an actual person (the client's wife), I don't know her exact age, but judging from the photo's he gave me I would guess mid forties. Now the thing is, the subtle difference between a woman in her mid forties & mid fifties is difficult to manage when you are using hard black lines. So I figured it was easier to do a fairly open line drawing, & do any 'aging' at the colour stage (since you can be much more subtle with colour, especially watercolour). Hence the discrepancy in age appearance between the two versions. Well spotted though.

Oh okey. Then you did a good job. I thought your intentions were to make her appear in her 20's or 30's based upon the uncolored version. If your intensions where to make her appear old by realism then you succesed. Great job.
