'Mavka (Forest Nymph in Ukrainian) was the protectress of the woods. She was revered by all the other gods, as well as the animals and plant life, which offered her protection and peace.'Did this after I got inspired by a RagnarokOnline patch called Moscovia. One of the cuttest new monsters is called Mavka, so I felt like doing a little research of the history behind this beautiful Ukarinian myth

okay, maybe im an idiot but mavkas are vengefull spirits that drown men in the swampy forests of ukrain... ther is a story of a mavka falling in love whith a human and i think she was forgiven for her sins or something. but their still suductiv nymphs that drown young men in swaps!!! they are the lost souls of haert broken suicides that drawned themselves. by the way i am ukrainian~

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the description...
This is NOT the ukrainian myth, but a fanart of a MMORPG game named Ragnarok Online.
It has a monster called Mavka that was added in the "Moscovia" patch and was probably inspired in the ukrainian story ;D
The initial quote was the result of a little search in wikipedia because I was curious about the meaning of the monster's name [link] However, if the wiki information is wrong or imprecise it's up to you to go there and improve it

Magnificent. The background is very well painted, as is the girl, who looks like she's dream-floating. She has a nice design as well, and I do love how it looks like she's rising out of water.

I haven't been able to play Moscovia on RO yet. Haven't had the time to see any of the recent updates or anything. I'd love to see the Zmey MVP though. <3 Russian and Ukranian folklore bring me such joy.

This one I originally sketched on paper (as most of my drawings), then scanned and finished digitally. So, although it started as pencil on paper, I'd rather say it is a digital piece because it was detailed and colored in photoshop.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any photo reference for this one (probably because fo the unusual pose) so it might have anatomic problems here and there, but I tried to consult myself in the mirror once in a while so it wouldn't turn out a disaster xD
