Description My submission for the Serpentes portfolio [link] It is a representation of the legend of the fight between Kuniya (woma python) and Liru (venomous snake) at Uluru, previously known as Ayer's Rock.

Ah man I love womas

I can't say I'm familiar with this legend, but I bet it'd be interesting to read. I'll have to google it or something.

Yah! Womas. One of my favorite local snakes. Its somewhat surreal seeing art depicting a local legend and landscape - I've gotten so used to everywhere else in the world but central Australia being online.

Womas are lovely. I live in the States, but I absolutely loved my trip to central Australia. Thank you for your comments.

Wish I'd known when you were here - could have taken you to the telegraph station for a picnic.
Don't get too many foreign fantasy artists passing through due to remoteness - as you might imagine

Ah well, I was visiting there in August/September of 2004. I'd love to go again some time and spend more time there. Just fascinating.

Pastels? Love the hues in the shadows. Great tension in the action between the two serpents.

It is a pretty interesting legend. There is one spot at Uluru where marks on the rock are explained as specific points in the battle between the two. Also, since it is Aboriginal legend, these people were both the animals but were also people, and were described as using shields and sticks and having hands.
