I use Touch Marker and Copic Marker together ^^ for some details like the make up, I do that with colored pencils

I see. I've tried to work with markers, but I don't think I have the right kind of paper as
I have trouble controlling the ink as it's sucked into the paper. Can you recommend any type
of paper or technique that minimizes that problem?

Okay, that problem comes up, when using "normal" paper.
There are extra marker pad papers, with a "protection" in them, that the Copic Markers won't give more color, as they need.
Especially of the brand Copic itself, there exists a marker pad (I use this personally) which comes in 3 sizes, like A4, A3 and A2.

Also there are many other brands too, but I did the best experience with that marker pad
It needs to say 'Marker Pad Bleedproof' and you get the paper with that 'protection' inside, that won't let your marker bleed out
