Description Jumping my amazing welsh cob mare Melody

Melody has trigeminal neuralgia caused by severe abuse as a youngster, it means that the nerves at the top of her head were almost severed when her skull was cracked and it now causes pins and needles down the sides of her face when pressure is put on it, namely by things like halters and bridles, so she much prefers this way of riding. Myself being disabled also prefers this way of riding!

Thank you soooo much!! It is awesome hehe

Yeah, poor moo, taken around 4 years to recuperate her and she will never fully heal, emotionally or physically x

Aw bless I didn't know that happened to her! Give her a hug for me xxx

I agree with ~world-of-zekira, bareback takes a whole lot more skill than with a saddle and bridle. It really shows the bond between you and your horse.
Well, in my opinion anyway :'D

Thank you! And it certainly does, anyone can hop on a horse in tack, but a horse can easily bolt or ignore commands when their is nothing to control it!

If it was down to me, I'd take all my lessons bareback :'D
I've learnt so much more in the time I spent riding Sorrel bareback than I think I'll ever learn under saddle :'D
When I get my own horse (Hopefully the one we go to see this weekend will be right for us!) I'm teaching mum bareback :'D

It's very true!! People at my college wanted them to have bareback lessons (for whoever wanted them) because it teaches you so much!! Yaaay Ooooh good luck!

Wow, I don't think my riding school would teach bareback :L
Meh

I'll teach myself on Billy!!! He's kind of chubby, so he's comfy lol

Aw hehe I hate Health n safety. it would just be nice to get out there and have some fun, without health and safety having a go at you.
I'm surprised that plastic chip shop forks haven't been banned for being dangerous lol!

Hehe yup fat and comfy XD
There's an armchair outside his stable actually, might convert it into a saddle.

Me too, not long ago they used to do bareback puissance and things!! Grrr
Hahahah I know many people who have fallen foul of a plastic fork in the arm, generally from me
Phaha have you seen the old chair saddles, look them up on google, they're hilarious

world-of-zekira [2012-09-05 06:02:26 +0000 UTC]

Wow that all... takes WAY more skill and dedication I think, than just slapping on the equipment and holding on. Impressive!

Thank you so much! Very true, Melody could easily do whatever she wanted when she is like this (heck she can easily pull me around when tacked up as she is incredibly strong ) but she doesn't because she is my best friend x

Haha I got taught to ride bareback by gypsies so it's quite hard to dislodge me, plus I spend more time bareback than in a saddle XD

Ahh it is such good fun if you learn it correctly, really helps you connect to the horse and fell their movement

I never learned, I just got on once and she threw me into a fence and I hit my head and got knocked out

StarCrossedPsycho In reply to Utterly27 [2012-09-05 01:16:08 +0000 UTC]

ouchies, as with everything you have gotta learn, try again and take it slowly, just walking on the lunge or something to get your confidence back

No one is interested in helping me, though.
And if my dad does it, he thinks I have to gallop around.

You're very welcome! Wow, you are very lucky!
I've jumped bareback, and I've jumped without reins, but never both at the same time!

You must have a great bond with her! ♥
