Personality:

Curious: To Violet, everything must be explored, everything must be learned, and she must never leave any stone unturned. This often leads to her getting inbad situations because she often wanders to where little girls should not wander (Read: The woods and the harbor, she's always warned to stay away but goes there anyway)

Kind: Violet's parents (both birth and adopted) taught her to be gentle and help those who need it, so she's often found feeding strays and wondering how hard it would be to convince Mommy and Daddy that a fourth dog is absoutely necessary.

Doting: This goes hand in hand with her kindness, Violet would probably make a pretty good nurse or mother one day. But until then, she is found stroking her beloved dog Solitaire and tried to get the mutt to be happy again.

Fearless: This is more of a bad trait than a good one, as Violet isn't afraid to go up to big scary dogs, talk to odd men, or even try to pet wolves or sneak out at night! The world is her oyster, why should she be scared?

Disobedient: As you can probably already tell, Violet isn't very good at listening to authority figures, and will only do something if she really wants to.

History:

Violet was orginally born in an inuit tribe under the name of Ila, the only daughter of two humble but well-respected tribemembers. She was bouncing, happy, good little girl, living in the world that felt like it was hers to roam.

But one day when she was but a six year old child, tragdey came knocking in the form of a disease that essentially wiped out her village, leaving Ila an orphan. Family and friends dropped like flies. None of the healer's methods did anything to help, and one day he died too.

Nome authorites eventually stepped in and took her away from her dying tribe and placed her in an orphanage, changing her name to Violet and teaching the ways of life of white men. Her native garb was changed to a plain brown dress, her ivory hair ordainments exchanged for a plain ribbon, and her moccasins for tight, uncomfortable leather boots.

Violet, contrary to Ila, was a sad little girl. Everything had been taken from her, and she was scared, alone, and confused. Why didn't they call her Ila? Why did she have to speak a different language? Why couldn't she where her normal clothes? She was purely miserable.

But not for long.

One day a kind man and woman came in, saying they would want a little girl to take home to be their own.

And as soon as they laid their eyes on Violet, they fell in love, saying that they would take her home as soon as possible. The papers were filled out, and Violet was carried to her new home on her new father's shoulders, both of them saying that she would have a big bedroom, pretty dresses, and everything she wanted.

Violet couldn't be happier. She had a loving Mommy and Daddy, a big, pretty house, and they even had a pretty dog she could play with! Alan!

But an even prettier dog came in one day when Mommy brought in a lady from a far away place, who was leading behind her a curly coated, floppy eared, wiener dog-looking pooch whose name she learned was Solitaire.

While playing with Solitaire one day she overheard that Solitaire's owner wanted to find her dog a new home, which led the Violet getting down on her hands and knees to her mother, begging and pleading to be able to adopt Solitaire. Please! Please! Please! She would take good care of her! She'd take her for walks, and brush her fur, and everything!

How could Violet's mother refuse? When the foreign lady left, Solitaire was left in Violet's care.

Violet of course noticed the dog's sudden depression, and even felt bad for adopting her. But she was determined to make up for it, and showered Solitaire in attention, becoming the dog's caretaker and near-always fussing over her.

For a few years Violet did as little girls do, playing games and going to school before her thoughts became abnormally heavy.

She saw a deathly ill man being loaded into a car and immediately rushed to the hospital, and the sight sent her careening back to the past.

She remembered that flush face, screwed up in agony, begging for relief. How could she ever forget? Violet saw that face over, and over, and over again when her tribe died. And each time she was powerless to stop it, and had to watch in horror as one by one her family and friends withered away in the arms of death.

It was then that a fire came into her heart. Violet would no longer allow herself to be useless. Next time she would be able to do something.

She ran to Nome's library, and checked out every book on the human body and illness that was there, staying up until the middle of the night to read by candle light until she feel asleep with her cheek glued to the pages of illustrations of human body parts.

But Violet knew at the same time that simply reading about diseases would be useless. She needed experience, hands on experience of tending to the sick. After bugging Lamprecht, Nome's doctor, for knowledge and skill, he agreed to take her under his wing, and she began her apprenticeship in becoming a nurse.

Other/Trivia:

She lives in the same house as Alan, Leonardo, and, obivously, Solitaire.

Violet is actually very accepting of her new culture! The orphanage wasn't the best place (obviously) for her to accept a new way of life, but now that she has a more loving home, she's embraced "white man's" culture gladly.

However, she occasionally slips into Inuit tongue or doesn't answer when someone calls her Violet.

Doesn't understand racism, but has been lucky enough to avoid any mean names so far.
