We just finished reading The Scarlet Letter in my english class, and I made some connections to Homestuck of course.
In TSL, Hester is branded with the A so people know about her sin. They can judge her, ridicule her, exclude her, etc because she's forced to walk around with what could be considered a target on her chest. In HS, the hemospectrum is kind of the same way, for me at least. The lowbloods (and everyone else) are forced to wear their sign and blood color on their shirts/clothes. They have to type in the blood color. Everything they do revolves around they're blood color, and they can be ridiculed just the same by highbloods.
So I just took these things and made an Aradia. With her sign all embroidered fancily on her dress. I got inspiration for that from the cover of my TSL copy.
