(technically not fully let loose as Queens yet, but basically Queens)

They're the royal mates for King Chance in the Shade and Slime Kingdom, chosen by him.

Newt is the SlimeScale mate, she technically has some Shade ancestry that still manages to show with the desaturated tone on her back. It's far enough that she's still considered 'full' SlimeScale though. She's on the smaller side, both in weight and just size in general.

Newt was friends with Chance for a long time before he became King, they were sort of childhood friends. Because of that Newt seemed like a good choice for a Queen, she already had seen the inside of the palace area, she was sociable but smart, she was perfectly healthy and King Chance already had good trust with her. Newt was honestly apprehensive about accepting the offer, since she wasn't really sure she could handle being a Queen (or if she'd really be that good at it) - not to mention she felt kind of awkward about the whole being mates with someone she considered just a friend thing.
Eventually she decided to agree to it, since being a Queen of all things is such a rare opportunity, she thought why not. Maybe she'll change the world - make it better or something.

Unlike most SlimeScales, Newt's actually been adventurous enough to explore outside the caves sometimes, usually anytime but daytime so she never got sunburned or 'dried out'. Interestingly the desaturated part on her back seems more resistant to any sunlight or hot temperatures, so that helps. Now that she's a Queen she can have nice, cool robes she can wear onto the surface in daytime, to help protect her from the sun - that's something they have for any sun-sensitive royalty, in case they need to go to the surface in daylight for an emergency.

Newt in general is kind of just nice and likes to help others. She doesn't always know how to handle a lot of 'heavy' or dark issues though, but her desire to try helping is always there.
She's pretty approachable and talkative, but she can get kind of shy or quiet with others who talk her down or make insults at her. Newt's somewhat vulnerable deep down, and since she's never dealt with bullies or anything much in her life - it's not easy for her to respond to those situations.
With enough time she comes back from it, but it can definitely affect her.

Her least favorite thing about becoming a Queen right now is some of the harsh criticism she's heard from some others about her. How she has no training or reason to be a Queen at all - that she's just a pretty figurehead for King Chance. She's currently trying to ignore it, but it does hurt her confidence a little, especially when she wasn't sure about accepting this in the first place.

Brisk on the other hand is a fullblooded ShadeScale as far as they can trace her lineage back, and she was born to one of the families that specifically try to raise their members to be suitable mates for a royal monarch to choose. So her entire life was basically being trained, taught and disciplined into the role of a Queen. As you can imagine. it's not very fun - especially with her family in particular which were notably very... passionate about it. Not all dragonets raised to be potential good mates end up becoming mates of course, but Brisk's parents were determined to make her an irresistible choice - if intellect, appearance and discipline were not enough, then they would have another, special trait unique to their heir - ice breath.

So from an extremely young age (before she even hatched) she would be placed in the coldest corners of the cave system or dipped into icy pools. Careful not to leave her completely frostbitten, but enough to slowly absorb the cold for enough time to gain a freezing breath. Thanks to all that, Brisk does actually have enough coldness in her that she can breathe ice even on the warmer surface (for some time until she was too warm). But also the end of her tail is frostbitten off at this point (and didn't really grow to a full length either) and she can't feel her toes or fingers. Brisk's body is also constantly cool, if not cold all the time.
She can't change the color of the light scales on her hands, feet, tip of her tail and tip of her muzzle. Those parts of her body are especially cold, as if she's absorbed it there.

Due to her upbringing, Brisk is not a very positive or cheery dragon. Most of the time she's really quiet and gloomy, and she always just went along with what her family made her do. She could protest or refuse to accept becoming Queen, but she just never saw a point in doing something like that after all she's been put through. In the end she's just kind of accepted her life like this.
Honestly she's just a little glad she actually managed to become Queen at this point, so everything before wasn't for nothing.

She's a bit older than Newt and Chance (who are probably about 10 or something - so Brisk might be around 14-15), but still pretty young to be a successful 'raised mate'.

Brisk is well educated in all subjects, so she knows how to handle a lot of issues if they come up. She's not the type for diplomacy though, due to how withdrawn she generally is. It's a bit awkward being with two others who are already in good relations with one another - she's sort of come in as an outsider.
In a way she expected being a Queen would be different from what it currently has been - more professional or something? She wasn't really raised to 'chat' with the other two so casually. But despite her being the odd one out of them, the fact that they are so friendly with her does help Brisk feel a little more happier for once in her life. It's a pleasant surprise.

Brisk's family is still in touch with her of course, and might try and get her to do some things for them - tell her the decisions she's to make.

Brisk has ended up hanging out with Newt especially, and honestly so far they probably have had the most romantic chemistry out of the three monarchs. I might go more into that later.
