Daemon
Devourer of souls, the highest placed daemon in the hierarchy of Re’s kingdom. Just as good and caring as she is aggressive.
Since forever, Ammit’s job was to destroy the souls of people deemed unworthy of being presented with an eternal life in the underworld managed by the god Osiris. While doing it, she was always assisted by two figures: the optimistic caretaker of the dead, Anubis, who also happened to be her closest friend, as well as the painfully scrupulous god of wisdom, Thoth, who never much respected Ammit.
One day, during the evaluation of one of the most problematic souls that the three immortals had to ever deal with, a sharp conflict sparked between Ammit and Thoth. Because the daemoness refused to annihilate the soul, the enraged Thoth decided to do it himself. That’s when, in the surge of emotions, Ammit attacked him, easily biting through his impenetrable godly skin, leaving the deity terribly wounded.
All three of them knew the consequences of that heinous deed. Ammit was brought before the court of the Sun god, Re.
Despite the fact that the standard punishment for attacking a god was always death and subsequent imprisonment in some of the deepest and darkest parts of Osiris’ underworld, the all-wise Re felt that he needed to approach the case of the widely respected, and known to be a good-hearted daemon, companion of Anubis a bit differently.
Ultimately, Ammit was mercifully sentenced to an indefinite banishment to the realm of mortals.
Before she left the gods’ domain, with no hope of ever returning, she took the time to say goodbye to everyone who had been with her since the moment of her birth, spending particularly long on her potentially last ever talk with Anubis.
And so, Ammit was sent to a place completely unknown to her, alone on a new path of her life which bore no resemblance to her godly status quo.
