Read this, I know this subject is inexplicably sensitive.I'm also thinking that giving them 0.1% may be a bit generous...
I know first-hand-- when Sonic OCs are bad, they're BAD. Laughably, mockably, DeviantArtSnark-worthy bad. You've got your green sonics and your "sexy" things and your big musclebound monstrosities and your "What does this have to do with Sonic besides the spikes and eye style?" characters, and your mary sues out the fucking wazoo. And that's not even touching the fetishists...
When Sonic OCs are bad, they're undoubtedly some of the worst OCs out there, and a lot, a LOT, of people with Sonic OCs seem to have the art skills of five-year-olds.
But there are a handful of well-thought-out, well-designed Sonic OCs that don't break canon too badly. I swear. While the vast, vast, VAST majority are laughable, a character doesn't suck just on the basis of being a Sonic OC... though it probably does.
I don't think my own OC (Mako) qualifies, but I have had people who hate Sonic OCs say they like him. They're not ALL badly-designed MS paint sonic recolours, I swear!

Just a opinion
At this point if you say 'sonic OC's bad, a few onesΒ are good' many users will applaud you, and yeah, is obvious
that exist many poorly done sonic OC's, and is wrong negate that this part exist, but is also wrong say that the 99.9%
of them are bad.
At this point is very stupid saying that 'x' percent of the sonic OC's are bad. And more than a defense, it gives the exagerated
message that almost every sonic OC is bad and only a VERY small amount is good or decent.
And many users will repeat it without even trying to questionate it.
Don't just repeat what many other users said and have a own criteria

True I honestly wish so many furries would quit using the masck of "Sonic OC" as a excuse to make borderline porn with their "Sonic OC's" because there is some potential to be had with proper Sonic OC's to bad that the only good ones are drowned out by all of the bad ones

Honestly the only thing my character looks in comparison to Sonic is his hairstyle and I have a pretty good reason for it. But still I can mildly agree some OC are bad.

The sad thing is, when there are good, well designed/written Sonic OCs, people accuse them of being ripoffs of canon characters or Mary Sues even if said person has never seen those characters or anything like that and even when said character is NOT a recolor at all. Or, they want the creator to fetishize or sexualize them even if said person is uncomfortable with said stuff and even if said character is not busty or anything like that. I had two friends of mine (one with a Sonic OC, the other with another fandom OC) who were harassed by fetishists who wanted them to let them live their kinks throughout their characters. Β In the case of Β fanchildren of canon characters, I've seen people bash well-made, unique ones while praising shitty ones who were just recolors or clones of their parents, simply because the former wasn't the child of their OTP.

I really hate it when people assume ALL Sonic OCs are recolours and Mary Sues/Gary Stues just because of a few of them. To me, I've seen more good Sonic OCs than bad ones. Sure, there are a fair share of recolours in the Sonic fandom, but there are a fair amount of good OCs as well, that sadly never get noticed. I wish people would pay more attention to the good OCs.Β

If I make Sonic fan characters or OCs, I try to keep them out of the canon universe, so I can have some of my own rules. I do have hedgehogs, cats and other animals, but I also have totally different types of characters. For example, I have a Capricorn and a Scorpion. I give them uniqe backstories and try not to fall into very irritating clishes. I don't share my characters that often, because I'm afraid that people will take some of them as Sonic-clones. And yes, I do have a male hedgehog who is kind of like Sonic, but again, I have a backstory for him and a reason to be like that. But, I agree. The majority of the Sonic OCs suck and some of them a propably mine, but I try not to use those

I agree, some sonic OCs are just clones of the main characters in their creator's vision. But when a character is well thought out with creativity and imagination, that's when they're good.

The Sonic fan base is a bit of a lost cause at this point and thats coming from someone who enjoys it very much. Someone should create a group or account geared to helping people make better fan characters/OCs and fixing bad ones.

Im not really in the sonic universe but I might make an OC for the hell of it, a persona, but nothing that has to do with any of the characters. Why a persona, because it can make a setting that has different abilities than the real world, expanding and playing on what is allowed in it. I like to use a similar approach to what MArk Twain used for Tom Sawyer. Tom is Mark as a boy, but in a different universe, so to say. He also plays with imagination to make the plot points more appealing. For the creature, Im making her a hybrid between a crow and a turkey, A Curkey. Still in development but I just want to make a good Oc.

Hey guys, I have a super-special-amazing green Sonic! He has manly scars and gool clothes and motherfucking sunglasses, bitch! And he's so awesome that he can beat up Sonic and Shadow at the same time, and he totally gets all the ladies and can conquer planets without trying. And he's so amazingly amazing that Sonic's girlfriend is totally going to cheat on him with green Sonic and turn evil for him! Donut steal! Oh wait, Archie already did that! I remember I saw a sonic oc that was a girl version of sonic, the creator just added eyelashes and clothes and that's all. Probably that was the worst sonic oc I have ever seen since it looked gay and the creator claimed to be original and she also created a duck that was practically bean but she just changed his name and changed the colors. All the hedgehogs she created had Sonic's same hairstyle and she even made a classic, super, werehog versions for all her ocs. All here ocs were Mary Sues with 0% of creativity and originality.
