I haven't really worked with colored pencils in a while, so I chose something simple. Kaoru from Dir en Grey -- gives me tips if you can!Related content

I know literally nothing about working with colored pencils or really drawing for that matter so in terms of technique - I got a whole lot of nothing for you. I can tell you that there is an incredible intensity in the eyes which is nearly hypnotic and the detail in his lower lip is amazing. I did find the strong blue line on the upper right hand side outlining his strands of hair is a little distracting to me but beyond that, this is really just magnificent.

I like the rich tones you have gotten here. So many people seem timid about how much colour they are laying down, so it all ends up very light and sketcherly. Which is nice sometimes. But I personally prefer some boldness.

the only tips i can give is if you used prismacolor, the wax blends well and if you lay down a layer of white before then its smoother. i happen to liek the smooth waxiness, but is you wanted texture then your technique is perfect.

Hmmm, did I use prisma colors??? I think I used a combination of prismas and crayolas. But that's good advice actually, thank you very much for that.

ooo...you did so good, he's even got that same look Kaoru gets....so..dark. and kinda evil. You did such an amazing job!! I think though that I like the hair the best because you maintained all the natural multicolor awesomeness that he has!

No, they're normal colored pencils. But I think that watercolors is my most natural medium, and so all the other mediums I use wind up being slightly watercolory ^_^

As for controlling colored pencils, I'm not very good but an art teacher of mine insisted that we keep our pencils really sharp, and color in sort of a crosshatchy way (but really fine and close together strokes, so it looks like solid color). It's a pain in the butt to keep sharpening your pencils, but it helps.
