Description Final painting for my watercolor class. This is actually a mixed media piece, with a primarily watercolor base, prismacolor pencils on top, and a bit of acrylic for the metallic gold and highlights on the obis. It's painted from a photo I took the last time I was in Japan (five years ago now!) at one of the random matsuri (festivals) that every little town seems to have.

Original is 16 x 24" on 140lb watercolor paper.

Prints available in my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/listing/194672508…

Yeah, she did her own version of it, 'cause she couldn't find anything cool in her own pictures.

this is simply amazing, I couldn't believe it when I saw it in the pile of paintings she was handing back... how on earth can you do such fabulous things in so short a time? It's beautiful!

Thanks.

I don't know about the time, thing, I've always worked fast... but if it helps any, this was the only project I actually got finished. All my final projects for other classes ended up only half-done, because I kind of killed my creativity with the stress I was under. >_>; Hehhe...

that is fully understandable, all things considered, but I still think your work is amazing. I was so sad she didn't put up your greenhouse studies/landscape at the critique, but it's probably because she didn't want us to feel bad about our own progress...

Well, not everything got finished, but I turned in what I had. Now I'm gonna curl up in a ball in bed for a few days...

Wow, a beautiful piece!
I can't imagine how long it must have taken to do all the details, especially the fabric o.o Also, I really like how you mixed your medias. The pencil on top of watercolour really stands out.

SpaceTurtleStudios In reply to KennithLi [2008-03-28 12:18:10 +0000 UTC]

The fabric of the kimonos wasn't so bad, but the obis... yeah, they took about an hour, hour and a half apiece. This was about three solid days of work altogether so... I don't know, maybe 12-16 hours total?
