Description I just finished reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy for my English class.
Part of the assignment is to create a poster for the book, which was really easy for my story despite everything being gray, since McCarthy used an incredible amount of detail. The descriptions are practically artistic; this could very well be the literary equivalent of 9!

This drawing is based entirely on the book and not at all on the to-be-released movie, so "the boy" is much younger than he is in a lot of other The Road images. Plus, I really liked the mask concept, so I stuck to the book

I highly recommend The Road, especially to anyone who is into the post-apocalypse. It's a sad story that stays in your mind, but it's not another "let's all become vigilantes, kill some bad people, and rebuild society!" sort of tale of adventure and excitement; it has more of a "let's just try to stay alive, m'kay?" sort of realism to it. Quite nice, it was.
Now, go and read it!

Drawn in pencil and fine point calligraphy pen.

Thank you!
I keep recommending the book, but I can't get anyone to finish it because everyone gets depressed just a few pages in XD

Wow, why has nobody commented on this? This book is amazing (almost done reading it) and you did great at capturing the emptiness of it all. You = awesome.

"...it's not another 'let's all become vigilantes, kill some bad people, and rebuild society!' sort of tale of adventure and excitement..." Indeed. That it is not. And that, among other things, is what makes it so great. The realism...

Thank you! It really was an amazing book; black leather-wearing, machine gun-toting, completely BA characters can be fun, but there was something really great about the characters in The Road. I especially loved the dialogue. I found the charred baby to be rather charming as well (or... maybe not...) 0_o

Have you seen the movie? I've heard it was pretty good!

I agree; the reason why (or, one of the reasons) the Road is so great is because it's not like a typical post-apocalyptic book where the characters all ban together and try to reform society...all whilst looking totally BA and stopping the bad guys. Really, those types of books/movies are popular and cool, but nowhere near realistic. The Road, on the other hand...
BABY ROASTING ON A STICK.

No, I haven't...but I plan to as soon as its out on DVD. Both my parents have read it and adored it, then they recommended it to me and I adored it, but my sis refuses to read it. Maybe seeing the movie will convince her that it's awesome.

You mean Terminator isn't like real life?! XD

I couldn't get either of my parents to read more than a few pages; they thought it was too depressing. Neither wants to see the movie (*sigh*), but my mom says she's willing to see it anyway! Yay!
That being said, I'll probably be seeing it only on DVD too.
