Description Here's a drawing based on a photography by Gavin Watson, found in his book "Skins & Punks"

I love british subcultures more and more every day, it's really interesting. (I'm reading a book about Mods right now, so maybe my next drawing will be on this subject )

I'm English and I'm just about from the right place and I'm just about old enough that your picture could have been a memory from almost any day in my early childhood.

Beautiful.

I try to be very respectful when I paint this kind of subject
I know that it may seem weird to see a french girl (and rather young above all) talk about things that she has never lived...
I consider all the (old?) youth subcultures very important and really interesting.

So I'm very happy that you like my picture...

I grew up on just the other side of Birmingham from Coventry where the specials formed. I was born in 1975, which means I can remember the biggest ska hits on the radio and I can remember the ska kids on the streets but I was a little too young to actually be part of the ska movement. I remember everything that followed. My teenage years were full of conflict dating back to those days. I remember the terrible riots in Handsworth quite clearly.

Anyway, for me the most important thing seems to be that someone somewhere recognises those days. How or why is almost irrelevant - that said it is a really nice picture and I appreciate it greatly.
