Makoto laughs as he slices through the cake. Your face brightens as you take a piece of the cake and feed it to Makoto with your hand. He leans in and kisses you as everyone cheers. Today's a special day for you and Makoto. You're both newlyweds.

You grin as you lean into Makoto's frame as you both briefly pose for a photo. Makoto takes the plate from your hands. He places it on the table as he leads you over to the balcony for some privacy.

You laugh as he stands behind you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders.

"It's a beautiful night, isn't it, Mrs. Tachibana?" he smiles down at you.

"I'm still not going to get used to that, Makoto," you giggle. "Though yes, yes it is Mr. Tachibana. I'm glad the weather held up for today, though I wouldn't have minded for a rainy wedding either."

"Mhm," Makoto simply replies, kissing your temple. "I'm sorry we have to postpone our honeymoon. It's summer season and everyone's been going on vacation at the station."

"It's okay. We can treat every day as our honeymoon!" you tease. You turn around and wrap your arms around Makoto's torso. You look up and notice him blush due to your choice of words. You chuckle to yourself. He still remains innocent despite the numerous times you've both slept with each other.

"I guess..." he murmurs. His hold on you tightens as he sighs. Makoto smiles again as he looks down at you. "I’ll do anything to please you, my love."

You blush the moment Makoto calls you that. Your greatest weakness for Makoto is whenever he gives you a nickname. Actually, another weakness of yours is whenever he gently places kisses along your neck, which is what he’s doing right now. No, anything he does is a weakness of yours and you’d rather save the intimacy for the bedroom.

“M-Makoto, not now,” you gently rest the palm of your hands against his chest, clutching the fabric of his blazer.

Makoto nods and takes your hand in understanding. “Let’s go back inside.”

“Okay,” you laugh as you both head inside back towards the reception.

"Makoto, am I going to be okay...?" you whisper.

"Y-yes, ____. You're going to be fine," he says, his voice cracking.

"Doesn't sound like it," you softly chuckle. "Besides, you're crying."

"Just keep applying pressure on your wound. We've almost reached the ambulance."

Your husband is doing his best to remain calm and professional as he tightens the cloth that's being used as a tourniquet. Makoto sets you down on the stretcher and reaches for your hand, not wanting to let go. He wipes tears from his eyes with his free hand, scared at the very thought of losing you.

"Don't leave me, please..." he pleads as he lets go of you.

"You won't be alone, I promise..." you smile through the pain, tears also falling down your cheek as medics place you in the ambulance.

Makoto watches the doors to the back of the ambulance close. He feels a hand on his shoulder and turns to look at his chief.

"We've almost contained the fire. Go to her, Tachibana. She needs you."

About two hours ago a fire broke out at the daycare you work at. As part of emergency procedures, you along with a few co-workers needed to ensure the safety of the children. After clearing out the building and checking all the rooms, it took a turn for the worst when part of the ceiling collapsed and you fell onto broken glass. It resulted in a large piece being wedged into your abdomen. You thought you were going to die until Makoto found a blood trail leading towards your location. You recall the shouting he made to his fellow firemen when they found you and the desperation in his voice as he helped you escape from the blaze.

Your vision blurs as you're unaware of your surroundings. You hear voices all around you and feel an oxygen mask being placed over part of your face. You take a deep breath and notice yourself getting drowsy as a result of the blood loss. Closing your eyes, the last thought you have is of Makoto...

One week. It's been one week since you were admitted into the hospital. Makoto places fresh flowers into the vase, setting it near the window.

"I got your favorite flowers today. They’re orchids, like the ones at our wedding. It's going to need lots of sunlight, right ____?" he smiles and turns to look at you.

No response.

He rubs the back of his head as the smile disappears from his face. "It's funny how we only got married a little over a month ago. So much has happened since then, right?"

Still no response.

Makoto sits down near your bedside. "I was told that if I keep speaking to you there's a possibility you'd wake up. Today, chief told me to take the week off. He said that I was working too hard but I disagree. I don't think I’m working hard enough." He pauses as he reaches over for your hand. "If I was, you'd be awake. You wouldn't be in this situation. ____, I thought I got over my fears from my childhood, but now that you're like this, my greatest fear is losing you."

Haruka opens the door and places a hand up to halt Nagisa and the others from entering the room. He turns around to look at them and shakes his head. Haruka is about to close the door until he notices Makoto speak up again.

"I became a firefighter to help others. I became a firefighter to save lives. Tell me, did I do something wrong by not arriving in time? If only I had come a few minutes earlier, maybe you’d at least remain conscious."

Only silence.

Tears start pouring from Makoto’s eyes as he clutches his head in his hands. "I'm so sorry, ____. I just don't know what to do without you."

Haruka closes the door and makes his way towards the waiting room. After entering the waiting room he looks at his friends with a composed expression. He sits down with the others in silence.

“Haruka-senpai, will ____-senpai ever wake up?” Gou asks, trying her hardest for her tears not to well up. She leans into her older brother’s frame as she lowers her head.

Haruka doesn’t answer as he looks at the expressions on all of his friends’ faces. They’re all in pain.

Crying. That’s the first thing you hear.

“What… where am I?” you softly say.

Makoto’s eyes widen as he bolts upright from the chair. “____, you’re awake! I-I’m going to call for the nurse.”

“Okay…” your regain focus of your surroundings and recall the incident that happened while you were last awake. You watch a doctor enter the room with a nurse to check on your vitals. You notice Makoto being asked to wait outside the room. He nods and looks back at you, a smile on his face as he wipes away his tears before exiting the room.

It was a year since the incident. You were discharged from the hospital early but still had a lot of therapy to do before you’re given the okay to return to normal activities. Today you were finally given the clearance from your doctor.

“Makoto, I’m home! Everything’s okay!” you exclaim as you walk inside the house.

“You still should’ve let me go with you to the doctor,” he pouts and crosses his arms.

“Hey, I asked you to take off from work today. That’s more than enough,” you cheerfully say as you tiptoe to kiss him on the lips. “Was the station able to manage without their ‘firefighter of the year’?”

Makoto chuckles, “Yes, they managed. So really… you’re given the okay to do ‘anything’?”

“Uh-huh…” you slyly grin at him, “I’ll race you to the bedroom.”
