Description We all communicate visually - everyday and with everyone. Our expressions, our clothes, our movement and our art all speak volumes about us, which we mysteriously understand the instant we see it in each other.

Speaking visually through images is an act that transcends nationality and in some ways individuality itself. A picture is a way to express or explain a situation that words alone cannot convey – to someone other than the creator of the image. It is this relationship, cultivated through visual interpretation and cultural understanding that has kept me addicted to this craft since day one.

I think that perhaps all artists feel similar – when they show work to someone – and hope that the viewer “gets” the visual cues. I’ve personally found that when people don’t get my specific intention, they often get something similar – in their own words and from their own worldviews. That is the essence and beauty of speaking visually for me; it’s a two way street where no one is ever “wrong.”

My entry was modeled from scratch with no references. I wanted to depict the somewhat esoteric and enigmatic strength of a computer artists’ graphics card – personifying this strength as an infinitely complex structure in a industrial manufacturing environment - with a nod to steam punk sensibility.

I used an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT that came with my laptop to render this image – the cogs were drawn in Illustrator and then everything else was done in Cinema 4D with a touch of post work done in Photoshop.

Nanogears! Nice! This looks like something out of that '90s art film The Mind's Eye (that's supposed to be a compliment, by the way ).

great eye! ur the first to say something, too!

I'm a bit of a noob with 3d (first semester this past fall) and the box is basically the doorway duplicated using a symmetry 3d object jammer that my teacher showed us for doing a self portrait... it looked really good when it rendered though so i thought i'd submit it. Cheers!

Wow, that's pretty nifty

It's inspiring me to model & animate the innards of a pocketwatch (wouldn't be too bad with maya & MEL), haha now if only I didn't have this stack of homework...oh well, I'll get to it someday

It looks really amasing. Im a huge fan of steampunk so naturally i love the style.

What are the specs for the bronze material you have used, iv got a pretty nice one to play with but i havnt managed to get it anywhere near that yet.

Thank you so much!

The material uses HDR image for light and has a very tweaked reflection. It also has a more dark sienna base color to it versus the other copper materials I've seen around. It really popped tho when I started using colors for the metal base that I snatched from the Sky's source image. Once the color of each were in the same complimentary shade territory everything just clicked.

Let me know how it goes, I'd love to see it!

Cheers,

matt
