I give to you the final evolution of Sleeping Lion from Kingdom Hearts Unchained X!

This key was made on commission and i have to say it was a real joy to make something a little more obscure. I loved the idea of the keyblades changing and getting stronger and having already made Sleeping Lion in the past, it was really fun to add some more pzazz to it with this one.

I think this may be one of my last keys that i'm going to do in plywood. After everything i'm really not quite happy with the finish it gives no matter how hard i try to smooth everything out. I'm thinking i'll try a natural wood on the next one....pine unfortunately pretty much being my only option but, we'll see. As per usual this key is made from layered plywood, carved by hand and patched with bondo and wood filler. To shape the barrel i used a technique i discovered on Rooster Teeth's "Master and Apprentice". Since i don't have a lathe i used a bolt to fix it into my drill press and then used a few sanding tools to shape it down (check it out on my instagram- www.instagram.com/p/Bf2cJn_gi9… )
The paint job is mostly by hand with acrylics apart from a sprayed base of silver. I wanted to try a replicate the blue hue on the head of the key but didn't want to go for a straight up blue. More of a subtle glow. Not quite sure how well i managed to do that but,i think it gave it an interesting touch
