Chapter 21

“You alright?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Diamond Tiara answered with a small grin, “you?”

“I’m fine, you sure you’re okay?” Rumble inquired as his eyes spotted red welts across her hide and harsh one on the foreleg that he guessed caused the limp.

“Yeah,” Diamond sighed as she followed his eyes dance across her body and spot her wounds. The filly could only imagine what she must have looked like now that she was bruised, beaten and wasn’t even mentioning how her mane must have looked with her hair in snarls and in complete disarray. “She got a few good ones in,” She ran a hoof over her mane and looked at the ground, “I bet I look pretty terrible.”

“No you look great,” Rumble blurted quickly, shocking Diamond Tiara to the point of her looking at him eyes that didn’t understand.

“Are you crazy?” she responded. “How could you think I look pretty like this?!”

“Well, yeah, but I never said you look pretty,” Rumble started, but bit his lip at the quick raising of her eyebrow. He desperately tried to fight for the right words to say. “I mean…well… you always look pretty. Every day you look pretty. Prettier than all the other girls. But any girl can look pretty. But right now…right now look… you look strong. And… Well… Well I think it looks great on you… that you look great.”

“Wow,” Diamond Tiara giggled out as she found she couldn’t help from blushing… it certainly didn’t help that a chorus of audible aww’s could be heard from the eavesdropping Crusaders and Silver Spoon and Sweetie squealing about how she ‘totally needed to get a coltfriend’.

“Yeah,” Rumble muttered as he shuffled his hooves. For a moment the two stood and the colt was unwilling to face her until a shout rose up.

“FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!” Soarin’ yelled, “KISS HER YOU IDIOT!”

“What?!” Rumble sputtered out nervously before looking back at Diamond Tiara who now looked innocently back at him. Expectant, but innocent none-the-less.

Rumble gulped, leaned down and gave her slight kiss on the cheek. The task completed, he pulled back, but instead of seeing a happy Diamond Tiara, all he got was shocked, and more importantly, unimpressed stare.

“BOOOOO!” Soarin’ shouted his disapproval

“Are you serious?” Sweetie Belle called out. “What kinda of kiss was that?”

“What are you talking about?” Rumble asked nervously. “I kissed her didn’t I?!”

“LAME!” Foxtrot joined in.

“Kids,” Spitfire lamented as she shook her head in disappointment. With a sigh she turned back towards the two young ponies, cupped her fore hooves to either side of her muzzle and shouted. “YOU COWARD!!”

“I’M NOT A COWARD!!” Rumble shouted back indignantly.

“OH YEAH?!”Spitfire replied, “THEN KISS HER LIKE A STALLION!”

“FINE!” Rumble declared angrily. “MAYBE I W-WILL!” his voice quivering at the idea of swearing at an adult.

“THEN DO IT!” Spitfire yelled back.

Rumble felt a hoof on his shoulder and turned to see Diamond Tiara.

“Yeah Rumble,” she teased him softly with mischievous grin. “Do it.”

Having had more than enough of this, Rumble rose to his hind legs, in the process lifting Diamond to hers as well, tilted her backwards to the point of her being off balance, took a deep breath and kissed the pink filly in his forelegs as hard as he could.
