I thought my sakamutsu pirate!AU would remain a single project, but I'm hopeless and I really liked it. After all, did we have a Pirates of the Caribbean!AU in Gintama fandom? I have no idea.

The real filibuster, the hero who called himself a son of the capricious and always unbridled sea, could find the blissful state of absolute freedom only on a ship deck, when in his lungs he felt the salty air carried by the cool breeze which was hitting majestically his sails, twitching a long shadow covering his ship.
However, although the sea with all its blessings and dangers was important for him, as a good son from time to time he had leave his dear mother and live his life. The pirates called it disembark. Gintoki Sakata, the pirate sailing on this waters longer than anyone could expected, knew it all too well. It was that day. The time to visit the port.
The nearest port he found, the famous Edo, knew many unflattering and so very appealing for a pirate stories, but it turned out to be just the same as other harbors. The smell of fishes and cheap pub alcohol drifted in the air together with the sound of old sailing chants, hummed by the old men.
But it was not a bad place, he decided. He could feel the spirit of the sea here.
"I think that in the absence of other options I can leave my ship here and rest a bit after my numerous adventures."
A young boy with glasses looked at him contemptuously, definitely not in the way he should look at the famous captain of the pirate ship. After a moment his gaze stopped in a place where Gintoki moored his ship.
"Obviously 'in the absence of any other options'. You know that your boat is sinking, right?"
"What are you talking about, boy!?" Gin said without hiding his indignation, "a ship is the soul of a pirate!"
"If your ship is your soul then it's completely useless."
"Rather disappear quickly!"
"It's not a reason to be proud of!"
Gintoki could chat a little longer with this pathetic boy who looked like he spent his whole life in a harbor inn. Sometimes it was nice to spend some time with someone ordinary, when he himself was captain Sakata, one of the four great pirates. He owed money to the other three.
But he had his duties. Who else could buy enough rum and strawberry milk to survive another long journey? A pirate never stayed long in one place.
"You're just a drunk without a ship, aren't you?"
He waved to the boy, instructing him how to moor the ship properly and turned around, looking for an inn with a suitable name.
"There's nothing to moor!!!" the boy screamed, but whatever he wanted to add he was interrupted by a man who appeared behind him.
"The mooring here costs 300 yen."
"I beg your pardon? There is nothing to moor! Besides, it's not my ship. "
"Then whom?"
The boy, Shimura Shinpachi, looked away, but he saw captain Sakata who sprinted in the distance. The owner of the ship disappeared just as successfully as the ship, leaving him with payment.
That's how he met Gintoki Sakata, the king of debtors.
