Well, here's my all-time favourite Maximum Ride character, Iggy! And, of course, he looks so hawt in the manga!

You can't go wrong with a blind pyro bird-kid, now can you?

Anyways, this picture was to test my skills in colouring, NOT my skills in drawing, hence the reason why a very vast majority of this picture [especially the wings] was traced. Normally I hate tracing with a burning passion, but, again, I wanted to test my colouring skills.

And, I would have just coloured the manga pic of him, like many other people have done, but I didn't like the look of the manga gradients with my colours. So, I created a lineart of him instead for me to colour. I absolutely LOVED drawing his face and hair! And the folds in the clothing were super fun, as well~

Of course, the wings, hands, shoes, and basic shape [such as where the joints were and how thick the arms and legs were and everything like that] were entirely traced, but most of the folds and his nose and mouth were drawn by heavily referencing the original picture. So youcan still consider the whole thing traced XD

In fact, by doing this, it has taught me how to draw realistic-looking clothing so much better, so it can't be all bad, right? And I obtained some knowledge on how to draw wings. XD Not much, though.

Now, onto the colouring~

I used a whole new style to colour this, and I think it turned out very well! I had a total of four layers [Canvas, wings, body, lineart] and I coloured him with the oil paintbrush. I'm loving the effect, and the shading and highlighting look so much nicer than the burn and dodge tool! Don't you agree?

His hair: I hope that's strawberry-blond enough I like the look of it, though~

Eyes: Oh my gosh, I absolutely loved colouring his blind, sightless eyes! They were soooo fun! [and I used about 5 different colours XD]

Skin: I like the look of my shading and highlighting, but I'm not sure if I made him fair-skinned enough. What do you think?

Shirt: I was really debating on whether to make his shirt pale blue or pale grey. Finally, I decided that my background would be blue, so I went with the pale grey.

Pants: Hehehe, these were way too fun to colour XD That's all I'll say

Shoes: Didn't do much here, really. I did keep messing up on the checkered pattern, though. I WANT IGGY'S SHOES

Wings: From what I've heard, Iggy's wings are the colour of an Albatross' wings. I looked up many pictures of Albatross, and their wings start white, and the tips are black. So, I decided to stick with it, but make the transition to black much more gradual. I had fun with the soften tool, and I kept playing with it until I got the effect I wanted~ I'm not as pleased with the inside of his wings [I think they could have been darker], but I still like it

Background: I wanted something simple that wouldn't distract from Iggy himself. So, I went with clouds and some simple lighting from the corner. Not much, but it's better than a plain white background.

Please tell me what you think about my colouring! [leave comments about the lineart to yourself, please, as I do not want to claim it as my own]

I think I'll colour Gazzy next~ Because he's too flipping adorable in the manga >w<
