I wake up and I still smell like Henrietta, though it has been several weeks since she last shared my bed and my sheets have been changed more than once. I assume she will never come back, and I suppose I should miss her because I really did feel something for her, but as I think of her there is nothing but a fond memory of the only smile she ever flashed.

My friends – the ones that are left – are careful with their words, as I would be had this happened to one of them, but they forget that someone guards my heart. Or perhaps he is just a figment of my imagination; the invisible friend I never had as a child. Either way, he keeps me from shedding tears over the memory of her lipstick smudged over my chest.

But I am starting to doubt the smell of her scented cigarettes will ever leave my hair.
