Just to make a picture with many 'collected' things, but I wasn't sure how; and I felt I should clean up for the picture, so I didn't do anything.

Do you mean: clean up things ?
I think that dust, clay, spider web...are really interesting.
They give more expressivity, history, "feelings"...at things.
And, your pictures are rather degraded, it's their innovative, special side, very different than others ...

I love the feeling when finding something new you can hear up and down, cause it's so great to hear.
It's a bit like a puppy love to me, but it's soon gone when you've heard it too much.
