Y'know what this reminds me of? When I was a girl, my mother would take me to the post office, and while she got her package, I would look at the postcard rack. I live in a tropical area you see, and there were always a group of postcards featuring some burly beach man with his arm around a buxom bikini babe.
I say this not as a criticism, it just tickles me that I find them similiar

Awesome! I do agree that the scales defeats the purpose of having them, but whenever there are bare breasts in a piece, I feel like that's all I can look at! They just take over the whole picture... So I think it was a good choice.

More than a mermaid, it looks like the pirate is holding a merrow.

Hopefully the pirate is nicer than he looks. I dislike scaled breasts, which rather obviates the reason for them being there. Nice expressions, good pose of her upper body and tail, nice 'grittiness' on the pirate.

I suggest shells. They're the accepted convention, and at least interesting.

the shells would change the whole feeling, it would make her less wild, and like she really care about what to wear
