e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="25" height="20" alt="" title="Hi!"/> Hello, this critique is being brought to you by your local #Critique-It .
I remember seeing your original and thinking it was a cool idea, but had much room for improvement, with that, I think you have really accomplished much of that improvement.
The first thing I noticed seeing it in the critique folder was the colors. They are much brighter, bolder, more vivid and strong throughout the photo. I didn't think the colors were that much of an issue in the previous one, but seeing this one with the same 'type' of crayons, with only colors, it looks fantastic. The contrast is higher, everything. I love the colors of this one.
Another thing is the noise, pretty simple. There was a bit of noise in the previous one, and here, it's nice and smooth.
Then there was the one thing that had bothered me quite a bit in the original, we could see where you drew in the outlines for the hearts. I think on the top right corner of the larger heart, I can see a little bit of an outline, but this time, in pencil and not so noticeable. I had to really look to see it.
One thing I do notice in the photo though, is the heavy shadowing. I don't mind it so much in the corner, actually, in the corners, it seems to pull your eyes into the photo, however on the left side towards the bottom, it's a bit heavy and looks like a shadow of something else, not an 'effect' or intentional.
Another thing in this photo that I think you could have taken is the bottom crayons are almost cut out, it feels a bit tight and cut off on the framing at the bottom of the heart, maybe you could have left a little more room at the top of the crayons.
Also, I noticed that when you go from the red, you took the crayons in order of the rainbow with the exception of yellow, it looks like you have one yellow crayon there, and then a yellow shade in the browns next to the red. Part of me wants to keep moving that crayon to where it feels it should be along with the order. (this one could also be my OCD for organization and coding...)
I like the cleanliness of the heart, how pulled in and tidy the shavings are. It makes the photo seem a lot more tidy then having shavings everywhere, and the few that are outside the heart aren't distracting and give it the 'these really are shavings' effect. I think you did nicely. I like how you seemed to have been 'selective' on your colors. It shows you put a lot of thought into this piece. The only thing I find i want to add some green to it. It seems like it belongs in there for some reason, but again, that one is more of a personal preference, and could really have just led to adding more and more colors to 'complete' it, so... I don't honestly have a lot of issue in this one.
The only last thing I notice is on the right, the shadows are a bit dark on the blue, making the tips of the crayons disappear into the shadows. Maybe you could have added a little extra lighting over there to make the shadows a little less harsh.
I noticed in this image, you still have some used crayons in it, however, they aren't as dull as they were before. I see no problem with the crayons having some slight wear in this one. They're all pretty new and sharp, pointing inwards, it looks fantastic there.
Also, the crayons are closer, straighter, entire photo more organized.
Overall, I think you've improved this a hundred ten percent. It looks lovely. There are still some adjustments I think you could make to improve it a little further, but looking between the two, fantastic improvements, really and as before, I think this is quite a nifty idea, and is really well executed. Great job e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I definitely have to say this piece has a much more vivid use of the colors of the crayons and the use of light and shadow gives it an excellent use of contrast. I like the original composition and I like the way you enhanced it when you redid the piece.

Heehee, thank you. I left those stray shavings just to show pretty much that it was in fact crayon shavings. XD

How doesn't like crayons (or wax based coloring utensils for those that don't use the brand crayons lol)
Reminds me of my humble beginnings

Good job at taking an already good idea and making it better. It bothers me that the surface isnt white (or brighter) which makes the entire image feel more darker, which I think it should be a bright happy love-tastic
