Some of you may have already realized it thanks to the Lore (be it trough the game itself or trogh the UESP), but I want to geet deep into it anyway, partially because I am a biology fan: the Dov can only fly because they have an extreme affinity with magic, because they lack an aerodynamic frame.

How I can be so sure that the Dov are not aerodynamic? Just because it is said in the UESP? No, I had to take a deeper look, and lets compare the wings of a dragon with the wings of bats and eagles (that actually fly without magic): pre00.deviantart.net/cfab/th/p… static01.nyt.com/images/2010/1… www.gettyimages.com/detail/pho… we can see a clear difference in the "design" of the wings of a Dovah and animals that fly naturally, the dragons have almost no membranes close to their shoulders, while the complete opposite happens with the membranes of bats and the feathers of birds. And if you think it is not a big deal: it is. If you cut PART of the secondary wings of a bird it will no longer be able to take off 1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOL7ac9vK80…. I remember where there was a group os muscovy ducks on the lake on my grandma's neighbordhood and the largest male had his wing feathers partially cut... he wasn't able to fly. If I tried to grab him or whatever the maximum he would do would be jump to then "fall with styke".

Another aspect that grabbed my attention is the dragon's bat like position when it lands, using it's wings as front legs. Like, it's legs would be far better for standing and walking around than a bat's, so why isn't it bipdedal? The answer actually is: why not BOTH bipedal and quadrupedal? Why wouldn't a dragon be unable to momentarily switch to a bipedal position for taking a greater look at it's surroundings? For that it would have to move it's center of gravity closer to it's hipsm and to achieve that he could move it's spine up and make an "S" with it's neck, obviously while properly moving the tail for balance, kind like I show in the pictures below (with a pose that I just did).

The way the bones are heavy could also be a clue, but I do not know if the bones of a Dovah are kinda hollow and are only strong because they are huge... or if they are really dense like the bones of a bull. As there is evidence for eighter of these I will just consider it a possibility.

So, skyrim wyvern dragons is not good anatomical, but bipedal pose is impossible for them - they have so small legs and big and heavy chest and neck for that. Tetrapedal pose is more logical for them's anatomy and physics.

For biped and they are need more longer and stronger legs, shorted forearm and upperarm, but longer fingers for wings, and also thin neck.
Just an biology, dude
And lazy Skyrim developers
