This is a great piece for a few reasons...
1. It presents the subject, the American Family, in a negative context. You communicate your disapproval for the traditional suburban white family and their mentality quite well. The ironic thing is that this family is at a birthday party; a happy event. You portray them as false at thier happiest...maybe you didnt mean to do this but its very powerful.
2. This piece is really in the context of Art. It reminds me of Norman Rockwell's depiction of traditional American nostalgic life with a touch of Warhol's blatant deconstruction of the subject. Also, since you hve used collage technique, you bring up all the work that has been done on collage particularly Romare Bearden...if you arent familiar with his work you should be, your style is like his.
3. Your use of non-traditional materials and texture is fabulous. It really pushes this piece to communicate more.
If you cant tell by now, I think this is great work!
