Description So, PhotographersClub had a theme for the week..

To see a world
in a grain of sand and
a heaven in a wild flower
hold infinity in the palm
of your hand and
eternity in an hour

I couldn't find the picture I wanted to submit but I did come across this one, and it seems to fit.

Birdy on the mountain, just past where he's standing is a straight drop down.
I should add that this is not the summit, this was on the way back down, somewhere on the upper third between the first and second rockwalls and above the treeline.

We are really so small facing nature...
This is a great photo...
The perspective is overwhelming...
Excellent choice in b&w...

It's funny I look at that picture and remember what it's like to stand there.

You feel so very ALIVE after climbing all that way, but then you look down, and it's like looking into your mortality, knowing that one little slip is all it would take.

Nothing like climbing a mountain to put life into perspective
I love it up there.

I know what you mean. I climbed a mountain in Scotland..... and decided to climb down the rock face instead of the grassy sloped side. I don't know why I did it, but there were a few points where I almost fell off, and if I hadn't reached my hand up and grabbed something, I would have died. I remember once I started crying cause it scared me so bad.... and there was a crows of people down below me watching me climb down this mountain... and someone screamed up, "Are you alright?!" I just said, "YEAH!" and kept climbing... it was incredible when I finally got down.
I mean, from the bottom I looked all the way up and was like.... I climbed down that thing?
I don't know how I survived. I was....15 when I did it, I think. Or 14?

This one has huge rockwalls, I actually think it's the best part of the climb. once you get below the treeline it gets harder, and since the trail is almost nonexistent it's so easy to get off course.
The first time Birdy and I climbed it we ended up trying to climb down in the dark, missed the trail and spent the night on the mountain(turns out we ended up perched just above a huge cliff), it took us 16 hours when we started climbing down the next day to find our way out..no trail, and lots of cliffs, drop-offs, and vegetation so dense you literally could not see a foot in front of your face.
I was so sure I was going to die that I didn't take even ONE picture all the way down, even though parts were gorgeous....now I wish I would have.

Wow... if you wrote a journal about it, I think I remember that.
And I know what you mean. That same trip, my camera broke about 4 days into it. Just stopped turning on. So I couldn't take a picture of the view on the mountain top of any of the stuff climbing down. It was awful.

I actually got lucky that my camera made it back in one piece that trip(the shutter sticks sometimes but other than that it's ok) it was in my backpack all of that time down and got banged around ALOT, at one point I fell down a ravine and I KNOW I landed squarely on it. it also got pretty well soaked when the log I was standing on broke and I fell into the stream. it acted funny for a few days but mostly recovered.

guess the older cameras really are tougher than the new ones.

I dropped my camera in a lake for...a good few seconds. I thought it was just a rock until my 9 year old cousin informed me that my camera had plunked into the lake. Needless to say, I dived in the water and touched it before it hit the muddy bottom... and the white balance was realllllllly off for a couple weeks. But somehow it started working regularly again!

Unfortunately, I don't have the worlds best camera. It does half the job though, and I'm proud of it for that.

It's amazing what the cheaper cams can go through and still keep working, at least once they dry out.

Mine's a 4 Megapixal ancient Minolta, I SO need an SLR but they are too expensive, I'm praying with taxes next year..I console myself with the thought that if I can take the pictures I do..with this old thing, imagine what I'll be able to do with a good one.
