Description You know something that always bothered me about Lady and the Tramp? The puppies. First of all they should have been spayed and neutered (shut up, had to be said XD) Second of all, how the hell would they have three purebred looking cocker spaniel puppies and one exact Tramp clone? As much as I love that movie that's just...stupid. The puppies would have been mutts in every sense of the word. So, here are a couple tries at how I think Lady and the Tramp's puppies should have looked, with traits of both. I might make more later if I feel inspired to do so. The background for this is craft paper (I cut out the characters to set them against it) 'cause it's fun playing around with that stuff.

these looks much better than disney's puppies, I mean I think possibly Tramp could be 3 breeds in one (not sure) wouldn't the puppies be 4 breeds in one. It would also be interesting if the son looked like the mum and the daughter look like there dad.

Thanks! Haha, yeah that always bothered me more than it probably should have. Disney logic. XD

It could be cool if they had a daughter looking like the father and the son look like there mother that could be interesting and 2 of them could look like a mix of them. The puppies are so unoriginal

Great job!
And I like everything you said about "Lady and the Tramp", too...
Still, one of my favourite childhood movies.

I totally agree with you! It probably would have made the movie that much better, but im sure Scamps movie wouldn't have been as good. But still. I agree with this Disney mutt nonsense!

While I don't mind the whole "girl pups look like Lady while their brother looks like Tramp" thing too much, when I make my own pups for "Lady and the Tramp"/"Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure" characters, they look like mixes of their parents and I actually have a Scamp/Angel pup who has Scamp's build, Angel's tail, Lady's ears and assorted colors and markings from his decidedly mixed heritage. Unfortunately his siblings who are slightly more mixed than their father and aunts but still take heavily after one parent make fun of him because he's a more obvious mixed breed than they are. And while I agree that in real life, dogs should be spayed/neutered, I'm willing to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the fantasy. On a closing note, these are ADORABLE and I wish I could both draw this cute and draw period.

LMAO that... ... yes.

XDDD the fixing part of your comment DEFINITELY applies to 101 Dalmatians, too. XDDDD (do dogs really have 15 puppies in one litter, though?)

anyways... yeah genetics and animators...

that background craft paper looks exactly like a photo i took of grass in an attempt to have another texture for grass in my drawings (it didn't work there, but i like how you've used it here! )

oh yeah, I totally agree there XD it always upset me how in 101 Dalmatians (at least one version of it) they went on to say how "and their children and their children's children and their children's children's children" so I guess they just kept letting them breed out of control, went on to be animal hoarders and never once stopped to think about the dogs in the shelters they could have been saving instead. but hey, it's fiction, thank god...sad thing is some people don't know how to separate fiction from reality. I'm not sure about dalmatians but the largest litter of puppies on record is 24, born to a Neopolitan mastiff. Size matters when it comes to litters, larger dogs often have larger litters where as smaller dogs have smaller...sometimes only one or two in the case of toy size breeds like chihuahuas.

....I went off on a ramble, sorry Thanks so much, I found that craft paper at a yard sale last summer (along with a few others) they've been really fun to play around with

You're right! I have never thought of that before. They would have DEFINITELY been mutts.

Awww, they're cute! And lol, I know right? That always bothered me too. I mean, my mom had a purebred Lhasa Apso when she was a kid, and she had a lot of puppies with mutts (I know, I know, but it was a different time back then, and people pretty much just let all their dogs run loose; at least when they lived out in the country, which my mom did), and she swears that while most of the pups looked like... well, mutts, there was one little female pup that looked identical to the mom; a purebred Lhasa Apso in looks, despite it's obvious mixed blood. ^^ So, there are instances of it happening... But to that extreme? Where all but one pup looks identical to the mom, while that one pup looks just like it's dad? lol No. XD

Another instance I can think of is "Balto"; or rather, the sequel, "Wolf Quest." Aleu looked enough like a wolf/husky mix, I guess, but the rest of the puppies... It sorta bothered me that they were all red huskies like Jenna; I mean, first of all, huskies can come in many different colors, regardless of the parentage. A red husky could have grey pups, white pups, black pups, etc... Of course, I guess that goes with the whole "it would confuse children" excuse that cartoon movies are so fond of using, and I understand it... Plus I get that the whole point was for Aleu to stick out from the rest of her siblings, being the only one who actually looks like a wolf, blah, blah, but still... it kinda annoys me. XD

Yeah, that's another great example XD Aside from Aleu all of the puppies in Wolf Quest looked like clones of Jenna (I think there was one that had a darker face, at least - his markings were more unique) I think you're right in that it draws back to the "we're making it easy for kids to see the odd one out" excuse

Yep. Seems lame, IMO, but eh... the movies are mainly geared toward kids, no matter the fact that some teenagers/adults enjoy them too.

And yeah, one pup did have a darker face, and a slightly bigger/thicker body build too, if I remember correctly. At least that's some diversity between Aleu and the other pups that were basically clones of Jenna. lol ^^

That's actually one of the things that had always bothered me, too. Anyway, awesome work! You made the puppies look so cute!

I know right XD even when I was little that confused me. and thanks!

Awww... I would have loved if all the pups had been different like these two.
I think the movie was trying to make an obvious point about Tramp Jr. being the odd one out and rebelious like his father and all though. Like... make it easy for the kids to pick out sort of?

SocksTheMutt In reply to HMS-ArtHound [2013-01-27 00:53:27 +0000 UTC]

Aw thanks :3 and lol I guess that's why...not very original though XD even when I was a kid that bothered me, I figured they'd have colorful fluffy pups with floppy mismatched ears XD

HMS-ArtHound In reply to SocksTheMutt [2013-01-27 01:02:09 +0000 UTC]

I dunno, the sequels always seem like their aimed at the really little kids for some reason, and they're always more rushed I think.

I think the process for the second movie was something like "UMMM ok here's some pups and this one looks like Tramp because we had some Tramp references laying around and idk the rest look like Lady, yes, good, ANIMATORS GO DO SOMETHING NOW."

SocksTheMutt In reply to HMS-ArtHound [2013-01-27 01:04:33 +0000 UTC]

Lmao almost all sequels suck XD The pups made their first appearance in the original though (and Scamp aka Tramp Jr actually had his own comic series in the 60s or whatnot, I have a couple of them) so I suppose if they would have changed their designs for the sequel fans of the original would have had something else to be angry about XD

Oh that's right, lol, I haven't watched the movie in forever. XD Guess they were just lazy with the pups then. They could have said it was a different litter or something...
didn't they pull a weird thing like that with lion king? Like instead of Kopa in the movie sequeal, they had Kiara?
I thought they had introduced Kopa in a book and then he sort of just went away or something XD

SocksTheMutt In reply to HMS-ArtHound [2013-01-27 01:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Kopa was never really official, just semi-canon at best. The books he was featured in (Six New Adventures) were more or less published fan fiction. I don't take them all too seriously (although I do like that we get the names Taka, Ahadi and Uru from them, I hate the story on how Scar gets his scar...it's just too unrealistic for my tastes XD) I'm not a fan of Kiara but her design was at least more original than Kopa's (who looked like a Simba clone with a tuft of hair XD)

Oh ok... just confused me that there were books and then the movie... (trying to absorb Lion King knowledge from the Lion King fandom that I somehow keep running into XD)
