Astrid probably is hiding something in the darker corners of her Heart, and something like this can't stay contained forever. She's probably going to be support when it finally breaks through.

I love this so much. I write HTTYD fan fiction from Astrid's perspective, and one thing that I feel gets overlooked too often is Astrid's struggle with her own identity and the struggle that she must have gone through to have the kind of confidence that Hiccup sees in her. I think she's probably far less self-confident than most people believe, and you've done an absolutely fantastic job capturing that. The body language, the symbolism of being in her own shadow, the way her hair's loose and wild when she's crumpling...it's all wonderfully thought out, and beautifully executed. Your art is now some of my favorites, thank you so much for drawing this!Β

this shows a more human side to astrid. i always thought she was so cool and strong, but i could never really relate to her. now...yep, i do. ^.^

I like this and to me it feels real.
Astrid was pretty much the ideal viking for the dragon killers. With the change and dragons becoming friends her whole life took a u-turn. I'm willing to bet she had to do some soul searching at one point, though she probably didn't let anyone know.

You all made some good points. I also noticed that Snotlout and Hiccup's animosity towards each other no longer exists, or isn't as bad as before. I'd like to see some character development with Snotlout too. He and Hiccup seem to be on better terms, but such resentment towards one another takes time to heal.

I think we all feel that way sometimes. We seem to hold things together most of the time but completely fall apart when no one is looking or aren't aware. Even those who think they have it good, can have those moments. It makes characters so much more relatable

Yeah! I think some people just can't see characters as being more complex. I see it a lot with Hiccup. People portray his younger self as weak and wimpy and scared, but he is FAR from that! Sure he isn't as strong as others, but he can take pain better than most men and stands his ground in the face of disaster! Astrid is more too. Sure she's strong, both emotionally and physically, but that doesn't mean she always is. She can have struggles and doubt herself at times. I thin that makes her an even better character <3

Yesssssss. **grins crazily** Oh my gods I cannot tell you how much Hiccstrid I look forward to. I even have a theory that Snotlout only developed his crush on Ruffnut at first because he and Hiccup got into a fight over Astrid. I really wanna see that in an episode.
Seeing Hiccup mad actually means a lot to me--especially when he's mad about something that threatens Astrid--and I don't know why.

I feel the same, some kind of conflict with snotlout would make a lot of sense if Hiccup started to feel like it was too much of his flirting. Although from the TV show it seems like Snot might just decide he doesn't like Astrid that much XD After all the fighting anyway. He might be too dense though.
I get wanting to see a mad hiccup too. He doesn't always show his mad side, mostly he brushes things off. He picks his battles, so when he does get mad it's for a good reason. Normally to defend the ones he loves. It would be interesting to see him actually lose it though, just because everyone does once and a while under the right pressure. Plus, standing up for ones self and ones loved ones is a sign of bravery! I'd love to see more examples of mad hiccup. He just gets so bad ass. <3333

I know! The only time we've actually seen him really angry was in Cast Out Part 1, and I want to see him get like that again. Also, Hiccup isn't like the others when it comes to cursing, and usually mutters something like "Oh my gods" under his breath. It actually would be cool to see him get mad enough to actually curse very loudly.
I've told that to my friends before and they just look at me like I'm insane. XD

thanks! I's kind of inspired by how I was feeling at the time. I needed to be strong for my boyfriend, but I wasn't sure if I could. I feel like Astrid might have felt the same when Hiccup was lost.

And that's why I love such a fan arts; you have depicted Astrid as a more realistic person than in movie; it's not a some character - your Astrid is a casual girl, a normal human being with weaknesses and true emotions! That's why I love your arts; they show our lovely characters as a people, like us. Thank you for this and I'm waiting for more...
