Battle for Scraparp
Siege of Ironhill Village,
"Archons."

"Live together, Die together....." was the quote Kavez remembered the instructors drilling into their heads about buddies in boot camp. Now it was starting to feel so damn true.

" Heh heh heh " The gunner bellowed, savouring the fear in the two salamanders as it slowly pressed the trigger.

There was a sudden crashing sound as the ceiling of the cafe caved in. Kavez caught a brief glimpse of a large greyish block going straight through the level from roof to floor, just like a stone through water. A millisecond later the floor gave way and he felt himself falling through what seemed like endless grey dust clouds.

Kavez wondered if he was dead and if this was that the afterlife was, when suddenly he hit something hard and solid with a loud 'Thund' sound. Disoriented, he blankly stared around and saw a small black shape next to him.

"Am I dead?" he asked himself.

"No. Ya not dead yet." Came a reply from the black shape.

As the dust settled, Kavez saw the familiar figure of Bink, hastily scampering next to him. Kavez looked around the place, then at the huge hole in the floor above and figured that they fell through the second floor and are back on the ground floor. He felt a strange sense of relief that they somehow unexpectedly escaped.

Then he remembered that the ground floor was where all the cultists were. Which he confirmed his fears when he saw the mob of cultists picking themselves up from the ground. There was that large greyish container below the massive new hole in the ceiling.

Then he saw the gunner getting to it's feet. Slowly scanning the place for them.

It was at that point that a panel on the container bust open and a tall anthro gracefully leapt out. It was clad in strange armour and looked much like a female foxxar, except it was much taller, had articulated feet, white fur, slightly different ears and most remarkably sported 3 tails.

"Time to rock and roll!" She said and quickly levelled an unusual assault rifle at the cultist mob, quickly firing a hail of shots at the mob.

Kavez, still coming to his senses, stared blankly at the ensuing carnage. It seemed that almost every shot the newcomer fired seemed to hit a cultist, even though she appeared to fire at an almost fully automatic rate.

Then a hail of retaliatory cultist munitions whizzed past his head and he felt something grab his collar and pull him behind a large pile of rubble.

"WAKE UP!!" Bink yelled, snapping Kavez back to his senses.

"Lets GET OUTTA HERE!!!" Kavez screamed and the both scrambled towards what remained of the kitchen. Then he heard the Foxxar making random comments above the carnage in the battle behind them.

"Step right up! Don't be shy!" she yelled

"Got enough for all of you guyz"

" DIE Weakling.. " The boomer bellowed, followed by a loud explosion.

"You missed!!" She yelled again "Perhaps a bit of lead in your brain will help ya aim better!!"

"Ahhhhh have some!!! Right between the eyes!"

" RRRRRRRAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!!!!"

"Ah, just my type. A strong, determined fellow!"

"Hey that was left handed."

"Oh crap, dead end!" Kavez yelled, as the pair of Salamanders reached the kitchen. The exit was buried in a heap of rubble. "We're screwed!! Gahhh!!"

Bink paused and twitched a bit. Then noticed that the sounds of fighting had stopped.
"Bink thinks we heads back quietly..... and try sneaking past."

They headed slowly back to where the strange container was. The Foxxar stood still near that container, quietly surveying the assorted carnage she caused in the cafe.

Then she turned back and glared at the two salamanders that tried sneaking past behind her. Bink squeaked and tripped on a piece of rubble, entangling Kavez in the process.

"Awww great, survived a tank, a triclops, a gunner and now we's gonna get killed by some psycho B#%ch" Kavez muttered to himself.

The Foxxar's ear twitched, apparently sensing Kavez's description of her in his soft mumbling. "Where's the Triclops?" She asked, coldly.

"Bink last saw it down Korran street, few blocks south of herez....." Bink replied, almost instinctively.

"Hmmm." She went, then pressed a button on her helmet.

"This is Soldier Theta - 15 - Alpha," She said, speaking into a mouthpiece that extended from her helmet. "Due to emergency drop pod dispersion, we're scattered all over. Walker coordinates estimated from local source, proceed to target?"

"......"

"Copy. Will take care of it" She replied, into the mouthpiece.

"....."

"Yes..." She said, taking out a squarish-shaped device and tossing it up and down carelessly in the air. "I got their present right here. "

Suddenly a horrible daemonic howl was heard from outside. That reminded Kavez that there was still an army of cultists and daemons that were marching down the street outside.

"Awww crap, now what we do against that outside?" Kavez said to Bink.

"Erm....." Bink repiled.

The Foxxar stared at them again, then spoke to once more to her radio. "Request Viper Strike, coordinates Zeta-Kappa minor from signal."

"..."

She paused, then once more looked at the two salamanders, noticing the radio Kavez carried. "Short channel 155-beta for the fireworks" she said, then walked off.

Kavez tried to say something to her, but he suddenly heard an odd saying echo in his head as she glanced briefly at him. It went:
"Our path is war,
Our trade is death."
He then caught a brief glimpse of the name "SORA" on her chestplate.

Both salamanders looked at each other, then looked back. Only to find that she had vanished. Then they stared at each other, dumbfounded.

Kavez broke the silence after a minute.

"Bink?"

"Yep Kavez?"

"I hate you, you clumzy oaf"

"Bink hates you too."

Scraparp battle

Sighting collection 1448:
Battlefield phenomenon: "Angels of War" / "Archons"

Coalition troops in battles occasionally report the sudden appearance of foxxar-like soldiers in battles. This is often closely linked to various mysterious failures in cultist heavy machinery. However, according to eye-witness reports, these infantry look like Foxxars, except that they tend to be of varying fur colour, have articulated legs (like the salamanders ), longer ears as well as (reportedly) have multiple tails. Whatever they are, they appear cryptic and clad in a variant of coalition armour, which some even claim to catch a glimpse of a small badge with the words "ARCHON" printed on it. These individuals often disappearing just as suddenly as they appear and appear to make little contact with coalition forces.

Some troopers call them "Angels of War" as their appearance often marks an unexpected turning of the tide of battle in their favour. A handful claim that they witnessed some of these soldier's extraordinary combat capabilities and say that these soldiers have supernatural strength, agility and accuracy.

These reports are often substantiated by captured cultists which often give fearful accounts of handfuls of these soldiers wiping out entire contingents of cultists, often with the survivors catching but a glimpse of them before seeing their comrades get mowed down by unnaturally accurate fire-power.

Although command has be notified of this, there has been no official word about these sightings. Although Coalition military tend to dismiss such sightings as "exaggerated" or "Results of battle stress", they appear neither to deny nor confirm the appearance of these so called "Angels" or "Archons". Speculation runs high that it is something that command is aware of, but not revealing to the populace. The truth is probably classified beyond Top Secret.

Ans when all hope seemed lost, the munchkin character came in!

(Just kidding! )

Every military has its elite, and the impression that I get of the cultists is that their primary strength is in numbers, not exceptional tactics or tech (with a few exceptions)

Cool way to pull their tails out of the fire, I might hope that this is not Sora's only appearance, though. It'd be nice to learn a little more about her and her kind. ( Within the story)

It's Cafe Carnage!

You're right bout the cultists. Most cults have strength in numbers..... (Specially this cult, the Daemon sun, which are known to use rather unethical flash cloning technologies to increase their numbers) but they do have their elites and crazy tech too (You've seen 2 so far)

Ah yes. She didn't intentionally arrive in the cafe though (you may have figured that by now). She'll appear again, sporadically until I figure how to properly make a main comic bout them.

HAAAAALLLLLOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Unfortunately that one is released in dec (or so I think) over on this end of the world... unless they do a world-wide launch like HALO 2. Gonna try to get the legendary version..... hopefully not a chinese version like what happened with my version of HALO 2.
Oh yes, the hell jumpers.

Thanks again. Good to know that there are those that enjoy reading it.
Well, What's war without a little danger anyways Though wondering if I should have a little break after the next chapter.......

Also kinda like the idea myself bout having intel at the end of the story. Cause I don't have to explain more of the tech and the world later...... (yes, will use the intel later)

Poila-Invictiwerks [2007-09-08 16:10:21 +0000 UTC]

Frankly, your character having more than one tail is cliched. A lot of anthro characters, especially the fan-made genre has more than one tail. Ninetails, TenTails, Eleven Tails, FiveTails... it's getting nowhere...

Other than that, the perspective and scenery are just decent. And nice attempt at poetry - it doesn't rhyme, it's just good "effort' in the composition and meaning departments.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Snowfyre In reply to Poila-Invictiwerks [2007-09-08 16:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Well, as far as I know, there's no char sofar that has only 3 tails. (it's normally two, five or nine) But sure, this char isn't too original either.

Then again, I don't think I wanna make things too original, but ya see, the tail thing is beyond just looks for these chars. They are actually unintentional mutations. Will explain more later.

That saying?

Oh it's not poetry it's one of the Archon's codes. (built for war, only for war.)
