Description For <3
Tried drawing younger Zack this time c:

Gloves fused to gaping hand wounds can only = pain. Even for a big manly SOLDIER.

Once, I got out of the pool after doing lots of manly butterfly lengths, and I was so pumped with adrenaline I didn't even notice that I'd caught my foot on a tile and blood was gushing out of it XD;;

But man did it hurt later on when I had to get the gauze off...

I once ended up with fourteen stitches in my knee. But before actually getting sewn up, I had a bag of ice wrapped in a towel pressed to my leg. When it came time to remove the towel...yeah...the sting wasn't pleasant...

Yow. Intensive.

Seriously, it wasn't all that bad. I was on crutches for four days and had the stitches in for ten. The only bad thing about it was that my family was A WEEK AND A HALF AWAY FROM MOVING FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE TO NEW YORK. Woops.

Of course, my sister was all like, "Does this delay the move at all?" It wasn't, "Is she okay," or, "Is there anything I can do," it was, "Does this delay the move at all?" My family loves me. Really.

Scotland's Nation Health Service 8D
It means if you get in an accident or need medical attention, the treatment is free- whether you've got insurance or not c:

I didn't even realise that other countries had to pay until I was hospitalised in Russia, and noticed my dad forking out something like 200€ when we were leaving .___.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RivisIndigoEmporium In reply to snailtamer [2008-04-18 00:32:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's a mess over here, trying to get treatment.

Basically, it's a tug o' war between the insurance companies, trying to keep up with the stupid people who don't take care of themselves, and these same idiots, who will cry and scream abuse and neglect if a doctor can't cure them, thereby bringing about lawsuits. For myself personally, I consider myself EXTREMELY fortunate that I'm pretty darn healthy. So far, I've dodged a lot of bullets in the whole illness department, but then again, I'm only in my early twenties. *pulls off nifty Matrix-y bullet-evasion stunt*

It also helps that my parents never panicked whenever I came home bruised and bloodied from something while I was growing up. "Your arm's fallen off?" they would ask. "Here. Just spit on it and rub in some dirt and you'll be fine!"

Okay, so it wasn't like that EXACTLY, but you get my drift...

snailtamer In reply to RivisIndigoEmporium [2008-04-18 10:17:18 +0000 UTC]

Argh. Sounds hellish.
My only experience with health care in the US was when we were talking about it in Modern Studies. We got to watch a little cartoon about a boy with meningitis being kicked out of hospitals because he couldn't pay, then he magically came to the UK and got treated right away 8D *propaganda*

I had a pretty sheltered childhood- never broke any bones or got too beat up XD;
The only problems I had were that I kept throwing up all the time, people tried to sneak peanuts into my lunch for lulz, and I used to scratch my arms to shreds when I got nervous owo

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RivisIndigoEmporium In reply to snailtamer [2008-04-18 15:04:35 +0000 UTC]

Propaganda, indeed.

In reality, though, hospitals here in the US are obligated to treat whoever comes seeking attention -- children, especially. However, the hospital may or may not be obligated to release the patient afterwards until everything's been paid for or if it's confirmed that payment will be delivered. The laws are regulated by each individual state, and are therefore slightly different depending on where you go. Some hosptials will treat you, and then hold for however long it takes for the money to come in. Tell THAT to your teachers.

I was the classic tomboy growing up: always playing in the dirt, always getting cuts, scrapes, and bruises, always beating up the boys on the other team...and the end result of all of that is scarred skin and sturdy muscles. Not bad, I have to say. Granted, it makes dress-shopping a trial, but it's worth it.

snailtamer In reply to RivisIndigoEmporium [2008-04-18 15:33:52 +0000 UTC]

I suspected it might be something more like that...
Modern Studies is always a bit vague when it comes to explaining stuff in the US, since so much differs from state to state -_-

I was a girly girl cx
Got plenty of bruises though... and I played in the dirt all the time. I loved digging up worms 8D
Difficulty finding nice dresses is well worth having muscles c:

I tried on my old prom jacket a while ago, and the sleeves ripped clean off when I flexed my arms. Roaaaar! XD;

RivisIndigoEmporium In reply to snailtamer [2008-04-22 00:00:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...it's pretty screwed up. Unless you're familiar with the laws in each state, it can be a hassle. For example, it's against the law to pump your own gas in New Jersey, but every other state makes you get out and do it yourself. In New York, a parent may be allowed to let their teenager (defined as being between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one) sample alcohol while out at dinner so long as the parent is the one buying it, despite the fact that this is not so for other states. Blargh!

Haha -- that's so funny! Believe it or not, I just excavated my old gowns and dresses, too! They all still fit!

...Including the little black dress that I bought for a semi-formal years ago back in high school...

Mad world .___.
I forget- how old are you when you're considered an adult in the US? Or does that vary too?

Oh, lucky you! I can still fit into some of my tops from when I was ten, but that's just because I was a pretty fat preteen. Ick D:

RivisIndigoEmporium In reply to snailtamer [2008-04-22 19:04:10 +0000 UTC]

I am twenty-one. Here in the US, there are generally three big ages. The first one -- usually sixteen or seventeen years -- is when someone can basically have consensual sex without the risk of either them or their partner getting pegged with a REALLY dumb charge called Statetory Rape (spelling?), which is a charge leveled against those who have sex with a minor, never mind the important fact that the minor said YES.

The next big age is eighteen. At eighteen, you vote, can legally buy cigs, lottery tickets, porn, and have sex freely. Eighteen is also the standard age that is referred to as the National Standard, meaning that you can be charged as an adult upon your eighteenth birthday. Oh, goody.

Finally, there is the glorious old age of twenty-one, which simply means that you can consume and buy alcohol legally. It used to be that you could do that when you turned eighteen, but then the individual states started going nuts with what ages were and were not acceptable for drinking. So, the Feds got annoyed (or...Fed-up ), and the government withheld highway budget money from the states until they could agree on twenty-one as the appropriate age. It's a really dirty trick, and lately, there's been talk of bringing the age back down to eighteen, since someone pointed out that since we can send people off to war at eighteen, why can't they drink at the age, too? Oof.

You're officially considered an adult when you turn eighteen over here owo
Although... you can have consensual sex, bear children, join the military (I think) and get married at sixteen... :<
