Description All that remains of the Chain Of Rocks bridge that was once located in Chain Of Rocks Missouri. This lost truss bridge used to cross the Cuivre River and connected Lincoln County to St. Charles County. This shot was taken from the Lincoln County side, there are no signs that the bridge even existed on the other side except for what remains of the old approach road and a barricade that was placed when the bridge was closed to traffic sometime in the 1990s.

Not to be confused with the other (and much more famous) Chain Of Rocks Bridge on Old US 66 that crosses the Mississippi River.

The thumbs below show how this old truss looked back in the day and appear courtesy of the Historic American Engineering Record.

Sad...Since I am in tune with it all I spot old footings and bridge remnants from time to time. A good many are railroad overpasses.

This one was kind of special to me because me and my Dad used to fishing right around this old bridge all the time. It was there as far back as I can remember.. and I even remember when they closed it to traffic in the 90s.. A lot of the kids & teens used to jump off the bridge into the Cuivre.. some brave souls even climbed to the top of the trusses and jumped from there... Only 9' of water there (except when it floods which it is doing now) so I didn't think that was so bright. The old bridge kind of slipped to the back of my mind and then when I went back out there a few years later it was gone. sad.
