yeah, Alex doesn't really exist in that house, they know his name but if you were a stranger in that house you would never know he lived there. I do like all the games, (haven't played Downpour yet because I haven't got the money to dump on it just now) but there are some in the series I would prefer to play over others. my favorites are 1, 3 and 5. I like 2 and 4 and Origins but they are not my faves. James I wouldn't say was emotionless he was just plain stupid. Harry was dumb too but you know, Harry didn't deserve what he went through. All the other games seemed to represent the main character as 'having done something' to land themselves there. Harry hadn't really done anything to land himself there. James murdered his wife, Heather was part of Alessa (thats not doing anything per-say but she had ties to Silent Hill and I cried when Harry died in that game- I was so angry I couldn't play it for a few days) Henry... man he was dumb too. and he scarcely seemed capable of saying anything more than 'what the hell'. He was very emotionless. Alex was the only one who really showed some sort of emotion that fit the situation. my only beef with Heather is when she had started coming off with a huge attitude toward the monsters, I found that a bit of overkill. I mean, NO ONE is gonna step off with tude when they are confronted with a fucking monster. her attitude toward Claudia and Vincent and all that was okay, but Leonard? But I know someone who had far less emotion that Henry... Travis... Travis was like a walking meat bag... no more. He stood there and barely flinched at some of the shit he seen... it was so bad that my father happened to be there when I was playing Origins and he is like "How calm is this guy?!" when the Butcher sliced through the demon nurse in the butcher shop. LOL!! and he was... I am like... step on a nail dude and cry, cuz even you are getting me down! well there, that is a text wall of geek banter for you!

You and I are one in the same, I still haven't played Downpour either! I guess you're right, "dumb" is a better way to describe James rather than "emotionless." I know what you mean, I loved Harry too, and as dumb as he was, he certainly didn't deserve the hell he went through. C'mon, the poor man was stressed out and just wanted a nice vacation with his daughter to clear his head. Yeah, I must say Heather could get pretty sassy, and it did get annoying with that bit with Leonard Wolf. Hahaha, I friggin' Henry Townshend just for how bland his character is! Silent Hill 4 is actually my most favorite entry in the series (mostly for the fear factor and the nostalgia, it was my first SH game). But I just like how "what the hell," was basically his reaction to everything. Probably the only time he looked legitimately scared was in Subway World Part 2 when Cynthia came back as the Victim 16 ghost. I LOVED Henry's expression in that cutscene, he's all like: "Oh I'm fucked." Haha! Now Travis... Man, I loved Origins, but I only played it the one time, and this was years ago, so I really don't remember. Well, despite how dull and forgettable Travis' personality was, I thought it was pretty cool that he was trucker, haha! Oh, and the fact that he could carry an entire Sears catalog-worth of merchandise on his person. C: I think we can all agree that as amazing and fun as the Silent Hill games are, the general lack of personality with the characters is pretty... Interesting, to say the least.
Haha, we're having fun, right? xD

LOL, as far as Harry goes, I have had debates about him. Fun debates with a friend of mine. She doesn't like kids so I can see where she is coming from but she HATES Harry (now I can see if she hated the Harry from Shattered Memories when you can make him a complete asshole) but she hated SH1 Harry for leaving Lisa or pushing her away. I personally would say, I wish he had saved Lisa, I felt bad for her, but... BUT... I can see why Harry was like "I offered you help, you refused, I have to find my daughter and I can't stay here coddling you." I mean when he pushed Lisa away, she had already pretty much told him she was one of those monster nurses, and then started to turn into one. I was sad for her because of her situation, but I didn't think Harry was an idiot since a child would be more important that a woman who refused your help. What do you think about that? LOL, lets debate on it XD
Henry... he barely eve flinched or he could have at least gotten a little boner when Cynthia said she'd do a special favor for him (whore >8P) that was one thing that drove me crazy about Henry, is he didn't flinch at anything... the most he reacted was when 1) he saw Walter behind the wall where he almost tossed his cookies and 2) when he opened the box with the umbilical chord in it. I MEAN COME ON! When Joseph's head was sticking out of the ceiling, I would have been pissing myself! I wanted to reach through the screen and smack the guy, I was starting to think his aloofness was getting annoying XDD but, despite that, I love that game. I love all the characters, even the idiot ones. So do you think the Super was related to James?
I liked Heather its just, all of the characters seemed either like a drone through the entire game or they reacted poorly to a situation too quickly. I mean, talk about needing therapy for the rest of your life, I would have gone into a situation like that screaming and if I lived, I would have still be screaming as I am escaping! LOL!!!
I like how we tend to see eye to eye on everything we have talked about thus far. Dare I ask your opinion on the Silent Hill movies? I loved the first one even with all its mistakes... the second one makes me cry its so horrible XD I could go on and on about why I hate it, but... just... I can't, it makes a knot appear in my gut.
sorry, I am passionate about Silent Hill... when I get going on it, I tend to blather on and on...

In regards to Silent Hill, that certainly is an interesting topic of debate. I must say, I really did like Lisa as well, and as helpful and innocent as she came off, you gotta take into consideration that she was also a drug addict. Furthermore, not only was she an adult woman as opposed to a child, but Harry only knew her for the duration of the time in-game. Bear in mind, Cheryl was just not any child, she was Harry's child. As he said to Cybil in the beginning: "She's my little girl! I just can't leave her out there!" Although I will admit, I still feel really bad how he just ran out on Lisa when she starting hemorrhaging like that. But as you said, if she was turning into one of those puppet nurses, it must've been dangerous. :/ So overall, I'd agree with you on this stance as well, haha! xD
Hahaha, it's funny you say all these things about Henry! I actually did lots of SH4 cosplay as Henry two/three years back, so to get "in character," I'd make myself look as oblivious blank-faced as possible. I guess now that you mention it, one of the only instances you can see a slight bit of emotion on Henry's face was at the very end of the game. He looked kinda pissed at Walter before the final boss fight. That reminds me, this pretty much sums up all of Henry's emotions throughout the game: [link] Haha! I love how you mentioned Cynthia! (yes, she was a slut)Probably the funniest scene in the game was in the first level after you discover Cynthia all stabbed and bloody, and she's obviously dying from all that blood loss, Henry's just like: "Are you okay?" [link] I friggin' love that! xD Oh yeah, I totally think that Frank Sunderland is James' father. If I remember correctly, I think there was even an instance where Henry mentions it when you examine the picture of Toluca Lake in his room early in the game. :/
Hehe, well I think the majority of the Silent Hill characters don't react properly. Most of them could stand to use some therapy, they're all just so weird! >.<
As for the movies, I was kinda "eh" about the first one (I'm very picky with videogame-based movies). I didn't like how the main character was a gender-bend of Harry, and how she didn't fight any of the monsters. The final boss-type monster was pretty cool, but I didn't like how they depicted the Pyramid Head as some divine punisher. Now Silent Hill: Revelations, I'm happy to say I haven't seen it, because I heard horrible things about it.
Don't worry! As you probably can tell, I'm very much into the Silent Hill series myself! It's one of 4-most favorite video game franchises!

Ooooh, do you have pictures of your SH4 cosplay?
yeah emotion that didn't evolve something like pain (the thing with the umbilical chord) and sickness (when he saw Walter on the cross behind the wall) those are physical reactions, emotional, the guy was a wall until the end when he came face to face with Walter. I mean, he didn't bat an eye for anything else! I was sure he was going to make a scared or worried face for Eileen or when Richard was being cooked on the chair but... no...
speaking of Richard... Braintree man, his bones must be steel because he fell a good long way, not a really young guy and when he hits that concrete all he says is "OUCH-DAMMIT" LOL!!! I remember my sister and I looking at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing because it was such a weird thing say and then he gets up and walks it off like he didn't break anything! people fall a few feet and break a leg or an arm, he landed full on his side, the way he hit the ground made my teeth chatter and he gets up like nothing. Really I do love the game, and the series... just some things are so funny!
Ah yes! I think you are right! I remember that now!
I would have to say the weirdest two were Travis and Henry. James doesn't make that list purely because he wasn't weird... not in the sense of lack of emotion, he was genuinely lost in the head I think, but I hate him anyway XD cuz he was a murderer. I felt bad for Angela...I started to feel bad for Eddie until he said he enjoyed killing the dog and then went on a description of how it died and then I am like... yes buddy, you are going to die now.
I was picky about the first movie too, I didn't like Rose and it took me a LOT to get used to her, and... the fact that those bastards killed Cybil... oooh, someone needs to be fitted with cement shoes. How dare they! Rose could have died and I would not have cried, I did over Cybil though... Damn you Christoph Gans. However... comparatively speaking, the first is still much better than Revelations and trust me, its not worth it. I won't tell you anything about it in case you decide to chance it yourself, but think... Vincent... in the game, the arrogant snivelly bastard he was (transformed into a teenage love interest to Heather...)compared to a gender -bent Harry (Rose) that is much more foul play... and that is just to start. Well I sort of looked at Pyramid Head as a punisher. Like he was the executioner, the Red God Xuchillbara sort of thing, in SH2 they show him in a picture that has to do with execution and to me execution/punisher are sort of one in the same. However... Pyramid Head is not a protector... he is one of the facets of Silent Hill that really isn't explained. He isn't tied to Alessa, not by that means in the movies. He didn't appear until the second game and a lot of people were like 'he is a physical representation of James' sexual frustration' and I am like LOLno... if he was a representation of all the dirty things James had in his head, there would not be evidence of Pyramid Head having existed before James got there. I think the representation of all the things James is was made into Maria and the monsters he faced. like they all represented something. But not Pyramid Head. Of course, if you have a different view, I would love to hear it! I LOVE TALKING SH lore with people!
whats your other 3 favorite game franchises? my faves are
Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Forbidden Siren, Parasite Eve, Tomb Raider and Uncharted

As a matter of fact, I do! Here you are, courtesy of my friend [link] . If you're interested, we also did some cosplays from SH1 and SH2 as well. So much fun!^^
I have to agree on Henry's physical reactions on those two instances you mentioned. But like I said, I think aside from the final encounter with Walter, he did express a look of fear when he first encountered Cynthia's ghost (which is still one of the most frightening scenes in any video game I've ever played). Other than that and the look of anger before fighting Walter, he was pretty blank face the entire time. I guess in the case of Henry, the developers just wanted to get more of a reaction from the players rather than have it all be shown through the character. Which I can understand, but c'mon, give the guy a little more depth! xD
Oh, I friggin' loved that scene when you first meet Richard! "Ouch! Damn it!" That's so silly. I think out of all the side characters in that game, Richard is by far my favorite, he kinda reminds me of Jack Torrance! xD By the way, I also attempted a cosplay of Richard Braintree, you can find photos through that link I gave you. I definitely agree, there indeed some very funny moments in serious games like these.
Yeah, it's kinda hard to really sympathize for James once you learn that he put all this grief on himself. I felt bad for Angela too, just 'cause she had daddy issues, then Eddie... I still felt pretty bad for him just 'cause of all the bullying he put up. But in hindsight, he was a pretty disgusting character. O_o
I like some of the actors they used in the movie, mainly Sean Bean and Kim Coates. As for the characters, I agree, Rose was just a genderbend-Harry, and instead of collecting health drinks, beating monsters with a pipe, and destroying evil deities with a hunting rifle, she was all like: "liek omg deez monsterz r so wierd lol wut do i do?" I'm totally with you on how they killed Cybil, that's just blasphemous! I heard about what they did with Vincent in Revelations, that's definitely one of the most retarded things I've heard these greedy Hollywood producers do for their stupid film adaptations of video games. D:< As for Pyramid Head... Right, yeah, that's a confusing. I mean, there's just so much debate as to what the good 'ole PH really symbolizes, and you made an excellent point, the fact that there was a physical depiction of him in the Silent Historical Society gallery shows that he's not just a symbol of James' sexual tension or whatever. I guess what I meant to say about him being a divine punisher, I meant it as Alessa's guardian (again, another retarded thing I heard them do in that pitiful excuse for a Silent Hill movie). I guess when it comes down it, the PH really is more of an "executioner" type being, but I really don't care for his American design compared to the original design by Masahiro Ito. xD There's just something so much creepier about the classic PH design. <3 At least in my opinion.
As you can see, I love talking SH lore with people! It's so fun to geek out sometimes! Oh, you know what the BEST "Silent Hill" movie is? Well, as a hardcore Silent Hill fan, I'm sure you've heard of Adrienne Lynne's Jacob's Ladder, the 1990 horror film which a lot of the Silent Hill games took inspiration. I absolutely love that movie! <3
You have great picks for favorite game franchises! I've played most of those games. As for my three other favorite game franchises, I must say that I love A LOT of different game series out there, but my top 4 are Silent Hill, The House of the Dead, Earthbound/Mother, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Oh yeah I really agree that he was really like "OMFG" at that part with Cynthia, I mean, who wouldn't be, that was creepy shit! I love how a lot of ghost women ever since The Ring or Ringu and Ju-on or The Grudge came out, all have long black hair that covers their faces!
HAHAHA!!! Richard! He came off as such a badass, and I do like him despite the jerk he appeared to be. I will have you know I was like when I heard you did a cosplay of Richard too, which I will check out as soon as I am done with this long ass text wall! LOL!!
Ugh... I hate bullying. I am vehemently against it. I felt sick about what I perceived that Eddie was going through, he was disgusting yes, but... disgusting and idiot are hardly reasons to make someone feel like they are worthless. His issue ran a little close to home and I was very much able to sympathize with him (I was bullied like hell when I was in school so I know how it feels) and then he did the thing with the dog... actually, one of my favorite lines in SH2 comes from Eddie... "Killin' a person ain't no big deal! Just put the gun to their head - POOOOW!' I know that is a rather disturbing line to like, and I am not likely to want to say that to anyone's face unless they know what its from, but every time he says it when I play the game I invariably say it with him LOL! and without going into detail, I also sympathize with Angela too.
Oh I love Sean Bean and I LOOOOVED Kim's Officer Gucci which only read about in the first SH game. I really loved his character! Some of my favorite lines in the first movie are from him! "There are many different forms of justice, Chris! See you have man's, god's... and even the devil's. Certain forms you just can't control." He is an awesome addition to an only mentioned character!
I am open to other outlooks on what that Pyramid Head actually is. BUT, I still hold true to my thoughts of him beign an executioner. People are like, well he looks phallic in nature and I am like... yeah, get your mind out of the gutter (although its hard to not have it there with the contents of that game) although I do have to agree, he does look a bit phallic XD
Guh, Rose... I think a man could have done just as good a job in that role as a woman. There is a special connection between mother and child, but there is nothing saying a man doesn't have his own equivalence of the same connection. Lets not even bring up the fact that they weren't even Sharon's parents. So the connection they would have had would not have been the same. This is coming from a woman who doesn't have kids so how the fuck do I know LOL!!??
I loved Laurie Holden as Cybil... I thought she was great, and despite the fact that I am straight as a board, she is a very sexy woman from a woman's POV. but the character that I loved the most out of that movie was Dahlia. Not the way they portrayed her because they got her mostly all wrong. But Deborah Kara Unger is gorgeous and she looked so good in that role! I just wish they had made her a bit more like she was in the game... but no, they stole that lime light from Dahlia and gave it to Christabella >8(
I like both designs, its just I got used to the movie design because I loved the first movie and then he appears in Homecoming like that. BUT... the first original design of Pyramid Head scares the fuck out of me. When you run into him in the labyrinth... yeah, I run like a whipped dog. I notice that with his evolution into the newer version, he grew taller too. The original Pyramid Head was not so big. But creepier by far and the sounds that often were heard when he was on the screen... yeah, I had to change my diaper XDD
(although I was shitting myself when you first see Pyramid Head in Homecoming when Alex was ducking behind the rubble and I thought it was going to come after me, you hear Alex breathing heavy in fear and I was too XDD)
those games fuck with your mind!
OOOH FUCK YEAH I HAVE HEARD OF JACOB'S LADDER!! OF COURSE I HAVE!!!

I prove my point! >:3 Yup, movies like Ringu and Ju-on really set the standard for Japanese horror, particularly with those long-haired ghostly women as you mentioned. Well now that I think about it, those types of ghosts are essentially modern interpretations of Onryo (怨霊), mythical ghosts from Japanese folklore that take on a physical appearance to seek vengeance. They're kinda cliche now, but damn do they still do a good job of scaring the living shit outta us! O_O
They're very common enemies in the Fatal Frame games!
Haha, glad to hear you like the idea of a Richard Braintree cosplay. xD As far as Silent Hill cosplay goes, a character like Richard is one of the last ones you'd expect. O_o But my friend Sanda and I liked him enough to make a cosplay (I friggin' love Richard's badass revolver!) Hope you had a chance to check out the photos in the link I sent!
Aww, that's really deep and you know a game has a good story when there are characters that you can actually relate to on that personal level. I agree, Eddie was a very interesting case amongst the various characters in all the Silent Hill games. Haha, that's cool, I really loved that line he said too! xD The first time I saw that cutscene, I was like "wtf?! D:" It was very unsettling seeing such a sweet and timid character like Eddie go through a state of mental deterioration like that. I will agree, Angela is also a bucket case too, what with all her daddy issues! xD
Haha, I think you and I can both agree that the Silent Hill movie wouldn't be cool without Sean Bean and Kim Coates!
I guess an executioner is the most fitting role for a monster like the Pyramid Head. As a matter of fact, I think that idea holds true at the end of the game were the two Pyramid Head make a goddamn shish kebab out of Maria right in front of James. The phallic part, ehhh, I never understood that. On that note, the whole "Pyramid Head rape jokes" have gotten old for me in recent years.
Haha! Despite you not having kids, you make a very excellent point about Rose as the main character in the move! xD I guess I would've been more alright with it if she actually did stuff from the game like fighting the monsters with a pipe or axe and patch up wounds with a med kit or taking painkillers from an ampoule. I will agree that Deborah Kara Unger made an excellent Dahlia, but I thought it was re-goddamn-diculous that they basically gave her role to that dumb character Christabella. In fact, I initially thought that was Dahlia when I first saw the trailer. xD
Yeah, I do kinda like the Pyramid Head's newer design when he appeared in SH: Homecoming (although I would've been content if they made a newer monster for Alex like they did with the Butcher for Travis Grady). Haha, yeah, being pursued by the Pyramid Head in Silent Hill is one of the most horrifying experiences any gamer can go through, no questions asked. The boss fight with him at the end of the game is easily one of my most favorite boss fights in any video game.
Ahh, glad to hear you know about Jacob's Ladder! Now, have you actually seen it? :3
