Description I've been playing my Twi over on SWTOR, and the more I think about lekku, the less sense they make. I mean, if you get in a barfight, what do you think the guy's gonna hit? Your face, which might break his hand, or the pair of enormous, fleshy, hyper-sensitive brain extensions that will pretty much guarantee a KO? They sure as hell couldn't be boxers.

I know I'm just thinking too much about aliens in movies, but seriously, how would such an enormous vulnerability evolve?

The only thing I could think of was that if a Twi'lek evolved with no lekku, he probably spent all his time punching everyone else in theirs and laughing. But then giant cave pterodactyls probably kept swooping down on them and carrying them away since they were the only ones upright, and that made them the easiest to grab.

And that is why lekku were never natural selection'd away.

Also, Tolian twi'leks are best twi'leks. I'm annoyed TOR doesn't give us a proper orange. :<

Since Twi'lek live mostly in dark caves, relying on their sense of touch more than on sight is plausible. I would imagin their animal ancestors to have really long "feelers", kinda like cave crickets.

Lol, the brain-extension thing has NEVER made sense to me. I think some writer made it up without thinking it through and others picked it up.

That's pretty much why:

A) My Twi'lek tries quite hard to avoid getting into physical melee fights.
B) Hyper-protective Trandoshan bodyguard in case of #1 happening.

The Sith Pureblood Inquisitor, on the other hand? That's the first thing he'd go after in a fight with a Twi'lek.

I thought this was HILARIOUS and yes, I've pondered the same thing. Agree on no proper Tolian in TOR, wth guys!

Also think about it-there's muscle and brain tissue in the lekku. There's no way they bounce around, fly around, etc etc they way they're "animated" in TOR. The TOR in game doesn't give any illusion of mass, they just ran a cloth sim for that part of the mesh and called it done.

Wait........
Their brain is in those things.

Forget boxing they shouldn't be able to run let alone fight with 6 foot long laser sword with almost 0 weight that requires its user to jump around like a spider monkey.

A small part of their brains, but yes.

I'm not a fan of "cutesy" type art (chibi's and such), but this cracked me up.

I've been reading about modern evolutionary theory, and I've got two thoughts on Lekku developement.
1. Natural selection doesn't always favor traits that aid in predator/prey scenarios. In social creatures, like humans, selection can favor social traits (ie: women average fuller lips and larger eyes then men). If lekku have a communication function, they'd be a social advantage.
2. There's a scientific function called "emergent properties", relating to the idea of scale. If early Twi'leks were larger or smaller and evolutionary pressures caused a scale change in the species, individual parts may not have altered in proportion (like ancient horses being much smaller, and modern horses having issues with tiny bones in their legs and feet being too fragile).

This is a pretty damn funny cartoon, hope to see more of 'em!

Another interesting fact about the lekku is that Twi'lek's can actually talk through small movements and "brain waves" using just their lekku. It's a natural language that they're basically born with. It's what makes them amazing strategists, because they can communicate from across the room with other sentients none the wiser. And while they are extremely sensitive, they're basically the same as genitals. It hurts like hell to get hit in them, but you learn to protect them.

In other news, love the comic. It's cute!

Well the Twi'lek have a long history of non-violence and they use brainpower rather than violence to solve problems (with a few exceptions of course)... and they used the Lekku to store fat and to attract Twi'lek of the opposite sex...

so yeah, I guess they needed them more than they needed to have their brains protected? humans do not have THAT much brain protection either tbh ^^

Methinks it may have been an evolution that was to allow more brainpower than their skull could permit?

I'm not a huge Star Wars lore buff, but that's just a theory I'm throwing out there We don't know how strong the lekkus are, either. The muscles in them could be incredibly dense. Just because they can sway around doesn't mean they aren't strong. Look at a mammoth trunk!

Just some thoughts :3c
