Well with this I discovered a new breed of dog hehe. I just researched it thanks to you. Beautiful dogs, I think they're prettier than the Aussies.

-giggles- I'm glad I could help you learn! They're absolutely awesome dogs, aussies actually descended from their family tree. Unfortunately they're numbers are dwindling since they are purely work dogs, though they also do well in things like agility.

I noticed they aren't recognized by the AKC. If they were that would really help with breeding them since they would get more exposure. Its a dog that satisfies many tastes since one seems to never look exactly like another. I wanted a border collie but now that I know about these dogs I want one of them instead.

Oh, no, no, noooo. The AKC needs to stay faaarr away - they've ruined to many good breeds. Since you were interested in border collies, and if you like books, I suggest reading 'Dog Wars' ([link] d_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234934159&sr=8-1), it really changes one's point of view on the AKC. The thing that makes English Shepherds so wonderful is that they're bred for purely working traits - appearance is very low on the list. We've gone to a couple of ES gatherings and you would not think some of the dogs are the same breed - along with various colors they also have different body styles (ranging from very light boned to very dense), different coats (while they don't have sleek coats, some do have fuzzy ones on the short side while others are wooly mammoths), some have ears that are fairly close to fully erect, and some even have natural bob tails - its quite fun. All of them have incredible personalities and great work ethic.
-coughs- Whoops, didn't mean to write a novel, I obviously feel strongly about it. x^D
Personally, I prefer ES' to Border Collies, most of them are less intense. If you do get one, I would love to hear about it!

Hm it is true. The AKC does values appearance more than they do performance. That's what attracts me to the ES, the variety. I was thinking about having a border collie in the future (i can't have another dog now since I already have four mutts lol) but I like big dogs the most. You know dogs like the leonberger, newfoundland and great pyrenees. I'm a sucker for big and fluffy dogs (as long as you don't have to groom them too much). But the ES is neither huge nor small, and its fluffy sometimes, and has high energy and it seems a great temperament, I like that. And don't worry about it, I could spend a day reading and talking about dogs so write all you want. ^^

Its a great breed, no?
-giggles- My mom named him, and she's never even seen Star Wars. Go figure. x^D
I don't think I've seen a border collie with different colored eyes, sounds beautiful!
Thank you!

Ahh he should be just settling in then. Well as much as a Shepard of any kind can settle. XD

-nods- He has settled down a lot in the past year or so, but he's certainly a high powered boy. Definitely a different speed then my shetland sheepdog, but I don't think shelties are real herding dogs anymore. At least mine would like to think she is, but has it all bass-ackward. x^D
