I havn't played FF7: Crisis Core yet but I've watched a few vids of it on Youtube and it's great to see they've captured the feel of the 2D CG rendered areas of the original games and translated them so well into 3D. It was interesting how they've updated the looks of some areas while remarkably having them still look the same, such as the Mt. Nibel reactor, and more specifically the test subject pods outside of the Jenova chamber, where I decided to doodle a large key moment in the story of both of those games - but this ended up just being a rough to test the colours and get the look of the locale right. If/when I do a proper piece, it'll be something where the characters will be much more in front.Done with black felt tip marker and Copics.

Why is Cloud already holding the Buster Sword in this scene if Zack is present? From my understanding, Cloud would not have had the Buster Sword in this scene.

Yeah, I was just looking at the original map. Yours was less obvious believe it or not.
The ironic thing is, that Jenova isn't female. All the fanart here features female Jenova.
Yet it's actually just her head, and I think she was reverting to her original form (head is the last to go). In FF7 the boss fights are its full real form, but no one goes cosplaying as that thing do they?

This is amazing. I loved Crisis Core, and this was an intense part of the game. I do believe it's the only time I can say it took me 2 tries to beat Sephiroth, whereas in FF7 and KH, it took me so many freaking tries; at least 10 +. Kudos to you on this amazing piece XD

I wish I got to play Crisis Core, but I was cheap when it came out and now when I have money to spare I think the PSP is all but dead. :/

I didn't get mine when it came out. I waited so long for it to come down in price, and on Black Friday in 2009, Gamestop had it on sale for $10 new, so I got it XD

Great work with markers!! I'm amazed at the amount of dark you managed to get with them. Kinda reminds me of Chrono Trigger original art by Akira Toriyama (specifically the one where Luca repairs Robo). Sorry for the off-topic here.

Belated reply: thank you a lot for that. If I ever come back to doing a final version of this piece I'll hopefully find a way to get some more character detail in. Those Toriyama art pieces he did for Chrono Trigger which shows all of the characters in various scenes are really great.

Copics are pretty good but there's some good substitutes, like Faber Castell markers.

I agree!! CC totally removed the warmth/mystery/fun/suspense from the original pre-rendered environments and replaced them with everyday-looking 3D graphics. Eew.
