Description
The Snapper Pokémon
"With a slow metabolism, REPTENDRON prefers to wait for prey to come to it. Hiding in jungle bushes, it snaps its jaws shut like a steel trap on anything that passes by."
"Its prehistoric ancestors were huge apex predators which went extinct after running out of their meat-based food sources. Being smaller, it doesn't have to eat as much."

You chose the Grass Starter, Reptendron! Congratulations!
In the wake of today's Pokémon Direct and all the amazing content presented by it, I figured it was high time to post a new fakemon set to celebrate, so the Kemet Region fakedex begins as of this post! I'm going to be posting once again in dex number order for these, but this time around I've decided to try something slightly different for the Kemet starters. Rather than sharing them in order, I'll be uploading the first stages, and then their midstage evolutions as another set, and then the final evolutions as one more set, before progressing in dex number order again. So let's start off the Kemet region with the Grass starter, the snappy, happy Reptendron!
I remember reading a saying from one of the official Pokemon designers that when it comes to the starters, there has to be a "cool one", a "cute one", and a "silly" one. Among the three I have listed I don't know whether to have Reptendron as the "cute" or "silly" one but it could go either way; I prefer the former though because dangit, I want me some cute reptiles! I knew that one of the starters had to be non-mammalian, and while everyone goes for an Egyptian cobra Fire starter, I did a snake already for Sundo, and every type of stock reptile except the snake has been used for the Water starter. Likewise every stock reptile except the crocodile was done for Grass, and aside from that one "sweater weather gator " viral photo I don't see much association between modern crocs and plant life except for the whole log-mimicking deal, and even that is more like Grass/Water. The inspiration for this thing was therefore a prehistoric terrestrial crocodilian, Boverisuchus specifically, to fit with the fan-theory of the Grass starter always being a prehistoric creature, even if not all Grass starters start as an ancient life form necessarily. The original idea was to have the design mimic a bush and thus to stick legs, a tail, and a big set of jaws on a clump of leaves, but that didn't look so interesting or similar enough to a starter Pokemon. Luckily, I came up with a better idea to have her scutes resemble tree bark, and specifically the extinct Lepidodendron plant, fossils of which were once mistaken for reptile scales! That idea allowed me to provide a more cohesive motif for the evolved forms too than what I had previously, but that's something for when I post them proper...
Anyway, stat-wise, I looked at a combination of Totodile, Turtwig, and Snivy, all of which are reptilian and two of which are also Grass-typed. The HP stat of 50 is the same as Totodile's and midway between Snivy's 45 and Turtwig's 55. For Attack I leaned into this thing being a powerful physical attacker, and as such, her 60 Attack is 5 points below Totodile's 65 and 8 points below Turtwig's 68, but 15 points above Snivy's 45. The 64 Defense is the same as Turtwig's and Totodile's, but the 40 Special Attack is actually 4 points lower than Totodile's 44 and 5 points below Snivy and Turtwig's 45 (again, primarily a physical attacker). The Special Defense is better than all three (Totodile's 48, Snivy's 55, Turtwig's 55), at 60. Finish it off with a lower speed than any of them at 40 (Totodile has 48 Speed, Snivy and Turtwig have 55 Speed), and you have a BST of 314, the same as Totodile, which is also 4 below Turtwig's 318 and 6 above Snivy's 308. So about average among these three!
As for the moveset, I went with a combination of Totodile and Turtwig, and limited the number of moves based on those of the canon starters. Totodile has 16, Snivy has 15, so I gave Reptendron 15 moves as well. Totodile provided Rage, Bite, Scary Face, Flail, Crunch, Chip Away, and Thrash; Snivy provided Mega Drain, Giga Drain, and Leech Seed; and Turtwig lent Absorb, Razor Leaf, Synthesis, and Curse. Add in Snap Trap for flavor - formerly Galarian Stunfisk's signature move but very flavor-appropriate - and there you go! This isn't an exceptional Grass-type, being just a bark-armored land-croc with powerful jaws and tough scales, but she'll become more special when she evolves. So stay tuned for that when the mid-stage evolutions of this line are posted, which should be fairly soon - I gotta finish their own flavor and in-game write-ups first!
