Description Commissions Open!   Need Watchers?

FB fanpage    Tumblr    Twitter    Q & A

Finished wip from the last year, I actually finished this loongg time ago but i was waiting for the commissioner's permission to upload. Since 6 months has passed, I decided to post the half size from the original size. I will upload the wallpaper version later <:

I pretty much had a lot of artistic freedom on this commish..excpet it must be a black hair and blue eyed gothic girl reading a book. So I wanted to draw a seer? girl reading a book and also reads people's mind.

Line and coloring is beautiful. I love the effects that just light up the piece from the book to the fire. I'm curious as to whether the magic effects were done by hand or were a brush that you created. I love the color of her gown vs the gold filigree/decorations upon it.

One thing I"m noting, for myself once you look past the effects of the fire, candles and magic dust. it's either her eyes or her earrings that seem to be the focal point. Is it either or both?

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be this way but her stomach, seems a little oddly shaped/rounded. It might be how I"m processing it with the stomacher. Or mayhaps the dress as it tucks under her breasts. Nothing major, just a little odd.

All in all, beautiful piece. Wonderful job!

Attractive and glamorous art piece you have here! Everything feels and looks mesmerizing and magical. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="390" title=" (Smile)"/> I really love her character design, especially her Gothic Lolita style, it fits her image well. I like the detailed embroidery on the front side and sleeves of her dress, the accessories suits her look as well. Also, she looks high-class and noble. I like her slightly leaning, upright sitting posture and the delicate gesture she's making with her hands. Her closed hand above her chest makes it seem like she's holding a jewel stone/treasure and her other opened hand looks like she's summoning magic while flipping through the pages, but she looks very comfortable reading the book too.^^ I really like what you did with the purple glittering dust coming out from underneath the page. It almost look like it's outlining a shape of a flower and makes the art look more enchanting. Seeing the warmly lit candles and fireplace in the background makes her room feel homey and comfy too. It matches the scenery. When I first laid eyes on her, the words elegant, intelligent, and beautiful a young lady came to mind. I really like seeing her lit up azure eyes with the setting of the night sky on a full moon, they are very compelling eyes. She does seem clairvoyant and observant as well like you mentioned, just like a mystical beauty of the night. A creative and exquisite art work! Well done! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="26" height="17" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="276" title="Love"/> Flump Bounce

Well, I rarely do this anymore, but you asked for it, so here goes (don't go crying to me later e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="395" title=" (Lick)"/>):

Your vision of this piece is quite clear, even skipping the description; there's certain serenity to it, which should go with reading a book, while the surroundings, while providing a taste of magic, compose well with the goth design of the character. It may not be "mind blowing", but most definately it forms a solid whole.

Per usual, originality is hard to grade as it always is the most subjective of the bunch; as far as I'm concerned this piece does okay - while the connection of goth and magic is not specifically unique, it certainly is refreshing to have a less "dark magic" affiliated with such a character; the glitter and peaceful vibe in the drawing suggests more of a welcomed type of sorcery, rather than summoning zombies or sacrificial rituals that are more commonly assigned to goth characters.
Overall the mix feels different, which generally is a welcomed change.

I know not much of digital art, so the technique itself is not exactly something I can grade adequately in this case, but the overall effect turned out good: the lighting accents the calm mood and the colors correspond well with the established image. Something that might give an impression of this being a page in the book itself (a style resembling an oil painting or the like) might've been a bit more suitable to set the mood, but then, this way, the piece is more "sharp".

The impact of this piece is undeniable though: while clear and somewhat dark, it gently embraces the recipient, rather than smacking him in the face. The dim colors play well with the lighting, setting the serenic atmosphere, creating a harmony with the subtle taste of glittering magic and peace of the library (or, in this case, study). That magical glitter in particular draws the viewer in, wrapping itself around the room to bend the light to impressive effect. The character's pose feels a tad off, like you weren't sure whether to make her startled by the "visit" or bordering on "alluring", which in turn sends a vibe that she's like an "odd-girl out", but even so she still goes nicely with the setup, especially her dress (granted, it seems more on the royal side than goth side).

All in all: it is a well-thought piece with a stunning design of colors and lighting. Some aspects feel like they could've been chosen more "appropiately" to set the mood even better, but the drawing does okay in that regard none the less.

Let's start with the very first impression..
As I saw this I first noticed her eyes and the slightly absend look..
That's really amazing as I came to realize that the title is reader... so I looked out for the book and found it... at this point I think it was obvious.. before that I didn't even see the book //slapped

Next I came to realize the sparkle in front of her and the fire are eye catchers... and kinda duelling - where should I look first? I decided do investigate the sparkles and found out that they are somehow melting with the stars... but why are there sparkles in the first place? It makes me feel watching a witch.. disturbing a magican at her studies //shot

The fire is overwhelming and seems to explode in the fire place... as I decided for myself that she is a Magican..I guess the fire is under control even if she is not watching it //winks

----
About the color composition... orange/red to purple mixed in with brown and dark blue.. you used two color bases and combined them.. the outcome is honestly magnificent!
I love the dark feeling of magic created by the colors and the obvious night time e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="387" title=" (Wink)"/>

She herself looks realistic and like a royal... her dress seem old fashioned but at the same time it suits her the best.. the shading and the folds look awesome!

The book shelve in the background is a bit overloaded... but all in all it fits in the scene for a ambitioned magican //smacked

Greetings Zue~
