Description
This is a beautiful snake I found basking in the road while riding my bike to work. I grabbed her before she got mushed and took some pics before relocating her to a safer location. I had never seen a blue striped garter snake before this.Related content

I guess it's an anerythristic garter snake. They have no red pigment, so they end up like that.

I bet you didn't know she's actually venomous! Garter snakes have very mild venom, but they don't really have a way to "inject" it other they half swallowing things and pouring it in the wounds XD
It's harmless to humans as well, but though you should know :3

I love blue snakes, especially this species because they are more along the lines of turquoise, such a vibrant color, and it looks so relaxed and calm in your hand. I'm usually not big on handling pics, because the snake rarely ever looks comfortable, but he/she looks comfy here! You captured the colors beautifully and the body length beautifully too. And thank you for saving the little guy, we need more people to think like that about snakes!

wow! he is soooooo pretty. l had a Ribbon Snake that was sort of blue-ish ounce but not that blue. he is really pretty. l would have kept him for the summer.

We have bluestripe gaters around here, but their dorsal surfaces aren't quite that dark. It's very interesting to see the color variations that you find when you go from one side of the country to the next.

I've never seen a Garter with a blue tint to it. Only thought they came in Tan and black & Yellow mixes. Very intresting.

Around here we are really lucky. There are no poisonous reptiles. Hardly anything is dangerous except for humans, bears and cougars. That's one of the benefits of living in a temperate rain forest I guess.
Anyway, I have been catching this kind of snake since I could walk. Once my brother and I caught 72 of them, and sorted them by color and size in to different buckets, wrote down where we caught each one, measured and weighed them, and then let them all back go where we found them. It was so much fun!

I've never seen one with that coloring either... tan, yellow, even reddish stripes... but not blue. Very cool snake, and a good shot of it.
