When I see stuff like this it makes me sad there isn't more demand for photorealistic portraits these days. I personally like to see darker darks, but that is more of a personal taste.
One thing I thought was interesting is that when I saw your drawing, I thought it was a black child, but the reference photos is clearly a white kid. When you go back and forth though, there is such small differences between the two.. kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

I agree that it might look like a black child, but as you say - what's the difference? There is none, and that's my opinion. As you may have seen in my gallery I love to draw/paint black people, because they have better contrast in their skin.
