Description PS painting from pencil sketch

So here's the color version of the earlier pencil sketch. Took a bit longer than I had thought due to all those scales.

It would be cool to paint it in silver-gold colors, not just gold-gold.

Thanks for the interest Rrajigar.
I can't imagine going back and doing a new version of this.

totally feels 'correct' based on Tolkien's Numenorien helmet design

Great piece! I like how you finished this off. Looking at the pencil sketch though, I'd thought maybe the little circles were to indicate inlaid gems added as a decorative flash of sparkle on the scales.

Thanks.
That wouldn't have been a bad idea.
That's the interesting thing about getting feedback from others is they have ideas for a piece that you didn't think about.

David-CGB [2014-04-01 01:21:23 +0000 UTC]

very nice, looks like a fish, so nice looking for a dagger

SirInkman In reply to David-CGB [2014-04-01 01:48:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks David. It's meant to look 'fish" like. The Numenoreans were an island/seafaring people in Middle Earth and so it was designed with that in mind. It was also meant to be a bit more decorative than say, a fighting dagger.

I'm sorry that I missed this before posting in it's black-and-white prototype! (but not sorry that I therefore got to see BOTH the work-in-progress and completed piece).

It is indeed a pleasure to see both versions (although I'll keep the finished one in my gallery, for form's sake).

love the design. Something archaic and refined at the same time. Yes - I think that fits the bill.

Thanks Freyr.
Archaic and refined... that sounds like Numenor.
