Coming from a tough childhood Gunner is distrustful, it takes awhile for him to put trust in anyone as he believes that should only be built from actions worthy of giving trust. He is also a very harsh critique, as he believes only true honesty can guide a person to success. With an iron fist, he offers a gentle heart, as he will listen to anyone who has any issues that he may be able to offer a helping hand with, or just be of company. He enjoys the simple things in life, such as a nice place to sleep, or a hot meal. As he grew up through really difficult times, and only got lucky in the later part of his life. With friends, he picks them very carefully, picking the ones he would trust in life, and even in death. He believed strongly that you needed to work to get where you want to be and could not claim to be something you did not work to be.

History
Jones Gunner was a young boy of twelve when his father decided that their family needed no more boys such as him. Being the last son in a family of eight children, Gunner was the youngest, the smallest of the bunch. He fought to be heard - literally- and fought to be noticed. His brothers were ruthless boys who did not mind stepping on their own family to reach for the top, even if it meant stepping on their own little brother's head. Lacking a gentle motherly role in the household due to her passing when they were young, the boys grew with the hardened upbringing of their military father. Even the girls of their family went through the exact same thing. Father believed in warriors, in God-like beings that triumphed over everyone in their path either through strength, or more strength. Gunner didn't fit with this ideal entirely. He had wits and smarts that outranked his oldest siblings and even his father, and because of his smaller stature, he was often physically abused for it. Throughout the years he did his best to live up to his father's expectations, but it all came to an end when his father decided that the first three sons are enough, and did not need the girls, or the other younger boys.

He and his oldest sister survived, the other three didn't.

She was the toughest of the bunch but due to father's dislike of her excelling above his older boys, he decided to get rid of her along with the younger four. He owed her his life as she was the one who helped him, and they stuck together ever since. Their home planet of Axra isn't so kind either (Location: Xanthos System). Constantly plagued by acidic rains and horrible volcanic eruptions, life was hard on the streets with his sister. It took awhile for them to find a place to stay for a bit, but they needed to survive, to eat and sleep. So his sister turned to prostitution, as it was the easiest way towards earning some money, and her age helped her gain more customers than she'd like to admit. Gunner turned a blind eye to this side of her life, and simply lived on, stealing, pick-pocketing and searching the trash for what he could find. He was pathetic, but his sister didn't know. Until one day she found him searching through some old dumpster behind a restaurant. She screamed profanities at him and beat him till he curled into a ball begging for her to stop. Unable to handle seeing him drooping low as to search dumpsters for food, she ordered him to straightened himself out, or he won't be welcomed back at her place. He argued that she was no better, spreading her legs for strangers. A moment of silence crossed between them and his sister said nothing else. She walked away, never saying another word. Gunner didn't realize it yet but it was the last time he'd see her. He went searching for her everywhere throughout the city, her usual spots, where they stayed, even went by to dad's place to see - but he couldn't find her. Regretting his every word, he fell to his knees in defeat. He had no one left.

It was only a matter of time until Gunner was too big to be searching dumpsters for food and living off of the streets. Skin and bones on his body and dirty as the next polluted canal, he was the shell of a human being - that is, until a military general crashed their vehicle into him as he was crossing the street, causing him major injuries. The man inside was James T. Moore. The Highest Commanding Captain of one of the vessel ships that traveled on their planet. At first, the officers had suggested to leave and let Gunner die, but Moore decided to help him, brought him to the base and gave him the necessary treatment. However, as it was a decision made just a split second too late, the doctors had to amputate Gunner's whole left arm and his right forearm. He was knocked out for a whole week only to wake up in Moore's own home, with Moore waiting to see him. After explaining what happened, Gunner sat there lifelessly, not knowing what to say. Moore expressed his kindness and told him that Gunner need not go anywhere anymore. That was when Gunner became the adoptive son of James T. Moore.

Through tough upbringing of a military step father, he grew to become the man he is today. But he is primed with wits and strength of character, and the whole-hearted kindness that his step father taught him.

"Strength of a character is important, but strength of a man's heart, will save him." is the quote by his step father that he lived by, even to this day. Upon ranking up in the military of Axra, Gunner got the opportunity to join upon the Stellar Edge expedition, promoted to Captain rank of the Ark. It was his greatest honor and his saddest day, as his father also passed. He loved Moore like a real father, but without that man, he would never be where he is now. He names his captain seat in the bridge 'Moore' in honor of his only real father, James T. Moore.
